If we draft AJ Green and keep Steve Smith, what will be the starting lineup at WR?

Of all our need WR is the lowest priority. No one really knows why Edwards didn't see the field that much. I was surprised, I thought he had a decent training camp and would at least get a touch or two a game.

LaFell and Gettis and Smitty is a pretty solid group. We had a couple of decent WR on the practice squad. Charly Martin reminds me of a young Proehl. Might be a player that connects with Ricky.

But following the Thread.

1. Gettis

2. Green

3 (slot) Smitty.

We have guys 5 deep that we KNOW cannot being a starting defensive tackle in this league. All of our Tight Ends are blockers. QB is a disaster area. CB will have a sizable whole as I doubt Marshall stays.

I wouldnt call Rosario much of a blocker. His skills are more reciever.

Wallace Wright:AE:Smitty:Gettis

You guys are really stupid. The starters would be Smith and Green. Smith at the slot? Um, yeah, okay, how many times did you see him line up at slot this season after he gave that quote last offseason with LaFell and Gettis on the outside? I'm not sure I remember that happening at all.

Smith's slot quote is analogous to Peppers saying he wanted to play in a 3-4. Sometimes guys just say things.

I think he'd play in the slot...when they're in a formation that has a slot (3WR/4WR). When it's our basic 2WR set, it'll be him and Green.

And the bolded part, sir, is blasphemous. Two players couldn't be any more different and shouldn't be compared on any level. :)

Not as cut and dried as it may appear. Smitty is arguably still a number one caliber receiver, but he's declared multiple times that he wants to play in the slot around other guys better than him.

Enter Brandon Lafell and David Gettis - two young guys who've shown a ton of potential... and then after april, if we draft Green, we've got perhaps the highest potential of all. Who, then, gets the start? Does it get decided in camp? Is it already a foregone conclusion? Will there simply be a constant rotation based on the offensive situation and the play called?

Any way it shakes out it'd be a great problem to have. Wide receiver could finally be one of the team's biggest strengths for the first time since the 2003 season.

We will NOT be drafting Green.

As much as I like AJ Green and would love to see a local kid on the team, I just can't see the justification in taking any WRs this year. 3 were drafted last year with 1 being a project. Gettis and LaFell showed more promise than some of our recent WR options have, so why punish them by taking Green?

There are more glaring holes that need to be addressed, and priority on those can change depending on who stays after the CBA.

If AJ goes to the combine and kills it, take him. Without a clear cut #1 enthusiastic fans are already doom and gloom saying no on will trade with us. Why would they have? The playoffs aren't even over yet. There's still today's Shrine game, the combine, and interviews. As we draw closer to draft day more unknowns will become known.

I can't justify taking AJ to myself any other way. He wants to stay close to home so that could be something :) Its like taking Bowers with CJ probably getting resigned and Hardy showing rookie promise. Everybody's favorite ballerina will be entering his magic #3 season and he has definitely shown improvement. If anything he could replace brayton but that can wait. I would much rather fix DT, QB, TE, and address OL + CB. Even then, with what we currently know and have available the QB position isn't going to be fixed this season unless somebody breaks out.

There is a once in a generation player at a position every other year. Even then that is mostly defined by physical attributes (which I think is ignorant, guys like Brees would never get love). Look at the rising juniors and seniors for next year. There is still talent out there.

Tldr; too early to tell but regardless of the decision the sky isn't falling

I'm not so sure, hands down BPA, we need help on O.

I just see no way that Green is taken. There are very few WR's taken that high. With the DT, CB (with Marshall like gone), QB, and possibly even DE needs on this team....I just see one of of them being addressed.

I like Green and think he will be a very good player in the NFL. Just don't think it is here.

But then again, I could be wrong. Happens a lot.

Well I just don't think you can't rule that kind of talent out. First pick is generally BPA.

All picks are risks, just this kid to WR is what Luck was to QB. Offense is far and away our biggest need.

Assuming the FO hasn't changed their mind about trading down I only see a couple guys worthy of 1 overall. To me Green tops the list, followed by Bowers who I just don't think we need. Fairley addresses a need as does Dareus, but 1 seems to be a reach. Peterson is another need, but is he worth it?

No QB's are worthy, I think Gabbert goes top 5.

DT and CB are equally "unworthy" of #1 pick, going by historical standards. A WR was taken #1 more recently than a DT. The "you dont take *whateverposition* #1 overall" argument just doesn't work anymore. Especially with a rookie salary cap incoming (quite possibly this year), and no QBs worth the #1. Bowers was good this year, but I've heard as much reason from various "analysts" not to take him #1 as reasons to take him. And we need a WR more than DE. We have (some) young proven talent at DE (CJ). We have no young proven talent at WR.
