Steve Reed Says 2012 #1 Pick (If Lockout) Would Go To...

Being perfectly honest, immediately after the season ended, with the shellshock of 2-14 followed up by the mess of the initial week, the idea of a year off from football didn't sound so bad to me

I can say that now, of course. Come September, no pro football on my TV screen would probably leave me shaking like a heroin addict :(

do you not like college football?

anyway, from what ive seen, im actually expecting a lockout. hopefully it will right some wrongs in the nfl.

If you told me we had to choose between being in the Superbowl every other year but having a quarterback who didn't put up major numbers but won the big games SOME way and having a quarterback able to throw for 500 yards and 5 TDs every night but only making it once in his tenure, it's obviously an easy choice.

The optimum scenario would be both.

The reality is likely neither.

Still, we can dream.

Disagree. We know only how Clausen and Pike functioned under a QB coach that overcomplicated things and a head coach that didnt trust young quarterbacks and did everything he could to limit them.

I'd rather see what Rivera and Shula can do with them before giving up on them.

We can agree to disagree, then. Unless Pike was somehow coached by Scherer as a college athlete to show a weaker arm than he had somehow, then... yeah. We also know that Clausen has mechanics issues that predate his coming here. At least one draft profile acknowledged his height and release would lead to numerous tipped balls.

How do we know that Scherer overcomplicated things? Where exactly did that come from?

Pike was a 6th rounder. He is expendable. Hell, I bet he had a good chance of being gone if Luck came in anyway.

The read on Scherer came from Gantt. Pretty sure he got it from one of Scherer's remaining pupils (perhaps both).

When you're a team with needs, no draft pick is expendable.

On one of the issues concerning a new CBA, if getting a new one done in time means having an 18 game season, then I definitely hope for the lockout. Some things are worth fighting for, and that is one of them. I clearly don't buy Goodell's lame excuse for having 18 games, its all about money. (Which is just greedy considering this sport is pretty much the most popular here in the states.) If fans really didn't like preseason games that much, why not have a 20 game season with no preseason at all? If less preseason games is a good idea, then no preseason games would be ground breaking.

Btw: how many of you think less preseason games is a good idea? Honestly, I love having four preseason games. Gives you a good look at your rookie players. For us, I would say the preseason was pretty much our highlight this past year.

Fran Tarkington would disagree. As would Dan Marino, & Fouts, Vick, McNabb, Merideth, White, etc... every single one of them would gladly give up their signature highlight on ESPN for that ring.

Elway, Theisman, Sims, Manning... & Manning would gladly give up every single defense torching game for one more ring.

Bradshaw, Brady, & Montana would gladly give up all of the babbling to run out of fingers on one hand.

The Panthers are your 1st team aren't they?

The Panthers are my one and only team and we have to work on that 1st ring before we cant get the 2nd buddy.

The less preseason games the better.

Why is that?

Because they're just boring. I think the NFL should go to 1 preseason game just for the guys that are on the roster bubble to show their worth. The Vets hate them I hate them and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. Every hit your starters take in the preseason could potentially knock them out of the season before it even starts. Give me less meaningless preseason games and keep the regular season at 16 games please.
