Steve Reed Says 2012 #1 Pick (If Lockout) Would Go To...

Would you rather the Panthers win 4-6 games next year, lose the chance to draft Luck and be stuck with Clausen? Andrew Luck is a franchise changer like Peyton Manning. It would be nice for the Panthers to be the franchise he changes. But clearly to people like you it's all about "win now" even though we clearly suck right now. You've got to think about it long term.

To think we would tank a season to get the number 1 draft is crazy. It might be a nice pipedream but is totally unrealistic. Rivera has a 4 year contract and it is likely many of the coordinators and position coaches have less. There is no way they waste this season on a slim hope they can land him and then spend the next year developing him when that kills half their contract. They are on a mission to prove their worth and will do everything they can to win now.

I'll go on record, saying that I don't care our record next year, I don't want a lock out.

You can spin it however you want to, but it ain't worth a lockout just for a chance to get a player.

Hey, we can disagree. Neiter of us have anything to do with the Panthers orangization. It's just opinion on here. My opinion is I'm tired of watching boring Panthers football and then turning to the CBS after the game and watching Peyton Manning tear defense's apart and wishing we had a QB like that. Look at all the good teams, they all have franchise QB's. Right now we have a bunch of scrubs and we will continue to suck until we land a franchise QB.

It's not just the player. I'm saying it's worth it to me to tank one season and get 10-12 years of being a Super Bowl contender in return. Call me stupid but that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

Let's see...a year ago Locker was the flavor of the day. Now it's Luck. He is staying for another year without his coach without half of his Oline, WRs are leaving. He will have a suckhole season and will fall out of the number one spot and we still miss him. f**k a lockout and rolling the dice....again.

before I say this, I'll just say I don't want a lockout whether we end up with the first pick or not, but...

Luck is in on a different level than Locker ever was. Luck could sit out the entire season and would still be drafted #1 overall. The ONLY situation that could push Luck out of #1 overall, is if another quarterback has an insane season and shoots up in value.

man I hate talking about Luck lol. it's not gonna happen and we need to move on.

you can get franchise quarterbacks outside the #1, and you don't need a Manning-level talent to have a franchise quarterback

lol, this isn't really true. Tanking his season could easily cost him the #1 spot, especially if he started getting pressured (go ahead, go look at how many sacks he took this season and tell me he isn't playing behind a godly OLine)

I don't think it is disagreeing. You want us to suck so we can get Luck. I am saying that is will never happen intentionally and there is no way the coaches or team would do that in the slim hopes that we could get him. I understand your desire to get Luck, most everyone here wanted him. But honestly that opportunity has come and gone. It won't happen no matter how bad anyone wants it unless we suck despite all of the teams efforts to win. And if that is the case, our problems will go much deeper than finding a franchise quarterback.

We can't be a Super Bowl contender without a franchise QB. Drafting Luck is the most sure way we can obtain a franchise QB and make it back to a Super Bowl.
Pretty sure the Panthers almost won a superbowl with Jake Delhomme. Ravens with a career backup.

Lets take this a lil further,

Aaron Rodgers

Tom Brady

Drew Brees

and then one of the greatest to ever play the game, Joe Montana

Please, don't bother to respond. I'm sure you got more excuses, but they are all weak sauce.
