Ricky Proehl, if hired, would reportedly be the asst wr coach and the asst special teams coach...who would he be the asst to?

One potential Panthers WR coaching candidate to keep an eye on is San Francisco 49ers WR coach Jerry Sullivan.

Sweet. After reading about Sullivan, I like him. I kinda had a hunch that Proehl would only be an assistant. Heres more on Sullivan:

Jerry Sullivan is in his sixth season with the 49ers after being named wide receivers coach/senior assistant on January 25, 2005. Sullivan boasts 19 years of NFL coaching experience, including one season as the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator.

In 2009, Sullivan played a significant role incorporating rookie WR Michael Crabtree into the 49ers offense midway through the season. After missing the first five games of the season due to a contract impasse, Crabtree went on to rank 1st among all NFL rookies with 56.8 receiving yards per game in 11 starts. WR Josh Morgan followed up his productive rookie season by setting career highs in receptions (52) and receiving yards (527), to rank 3rd on the team in both categories.

A year prior, Sullivan’s unit was highlighted by the play of 15-year veteran WR Isaac Bruce, who caught seven touchdowns, his most since 2002, and led all receivers with 835 receiving yards on 61 catches.

Sullivan joined the 49ers after spending the 2004 season as wide receivers coach for the Miami Dolphins. Sullivan was a member of the Arizona Cardinals’ coaching staff for three seasons (2001-03). In his first two years with the club, Sullivan mentored the team’s wide receivers, where he worked with a group that included WR David Boston. Under Sullivan’s guidance, Boston led the NFL with 1,598 receiving yards on 98 receptions in 2001 and was selected to the first Pro Bowl of his career. In 2003, Sullivan was promoted to offensive coordinator and worked with rookie wide receiver WR Anquan Boldin, a second-round draft choice who finished third in the league in receptions (101) and receiving yards (1,377) on his way to being named the NFL’s Rookie of the Year, as well as a starter on the NFC’s Pro Bowl squad.

Sullivan has coached a multitude of Pro Bowl receivers, including San Diego Chargers WR Anthony Miller (1992-93) and WR Tony Martin (1996), Detroit Lions WR Herman Moore (1997-98) and WR Germaine Crowell (1999), and Arizona Cardinals WR David Boston (2001) and WR Anquan Boldin (2003).

Sullivan’s NFL coaching career began in 1992 with the San Diego Chargers. Following his five-year term in San Diego, Sullivan coached wide receivers in Detroit from 1997 to 2000. Prior to his tenure in the Motor City, he coached on the collegiate level from 1971 to 1991, including stints with Texas Tech, South Carolina, Indiana, Louisiana State and Ohio State.

Sullivan and his wife, Connie, reside in San Jose, CA. The couple has one son, Jon-Eric, who serves as a regional college scout for the Green Bay Packers. Connie has a daughter, Allison Guay, and grandchildren named Gibson and Harper, who reside in Baton Rouge, LA, and a son, Matthew, who works for an insurance company in Baton Rouge, LA.

That's only proper need to give him some time with the training wheels.

I agree, but Proehl might not.

Big time players have big time egos.

Not knowing Proehl personally, I can't definitively say what he'd believe himself worthy of.

For now, I'm just hoping that whatever it is, it fits neatly together with what we're willing to offer.
