Don't know what to make of this hire.. Certainly a Big Name.. but I don't really know his body of work that well.. Knowing that he coached David Garrard doesn't really help either..

Honestly, i wanted Jeremy Bates as the QB coach, BUT i will give this hire a wait and see approach, not a fan of Mike Shula (didnt do well at Bama), but maybe he will surprise me. If he can make Clausen a better quarterback, then that will surprise me.

He is not being hired as a head coach which is what he was at Alabama. Totally different skill sets. There is a long history of guys who make great position coaches who don't make great coordinators or head coaches.

As a quarterback coach I think he will be fine. As a head coach I would have serious concerns. But his experience as an OC and head coach will help him as a quarterback coach understanding the larger picture. Plus he played well in the league and his strength was his tenacity and hard work given he wasn't the most physically talented player. Should be a great mentor for Clausen who will also have to rely on other skills than great measurables and athletic talent.

it's also important to remember that rivera is hiring people he feels comfortable with & how they fit into the big picture. shula has done well with the Qb's given to him. i personally think anybody is better than schrer period
