We must figure out a way to trade down

Can someone please give my some hypothetical scenario of what would happen if we "trade down?"

Yes we will trade down to the 32nd pick of the draft then trade back up in the 24th for our first and second pick in 2012 then trade that pick for the 33rd pick for our 1st in the 2013 draft then trade that pick for another pick for Andrew luck next year then trade andrew luck to the 49ers for Jim Harbaugh then trade Jim to the Denver Broncos for John Fox and then we will have come full circle.

well.. we can get a second rounder back.. which in this draft.. would be pretty important. Would be interesting to see if it was John Fox or Hurney who could never get an offensive Second Rounder right.. (other than Kalil.. though he was the second pick that year.. they took DJ first ._.)

I think a likely scenero may be some team like the Jets feel the only thing between them and the superbowl is an elite DT like Fairley. They offer us there number 1 this year and number 1 next year to trade up to get him.It would more than likely be a very good team with a specific need for either an elite WR(Green),CB(Peterson),(DT Fairley)or DE(Bowers) that they feel could take them to the promise land.

Honestly I don't always have a problem trading a number 1, if you get a number 1 back. I would be totally fine with say the following example.

We take Fairley with the Number 1 pick, then say if Newton were to slide to about 15 or so, I would try and trade back into the first round by trading next years number 1.

yeah, but w/ all the unknowns....they could essentially trade the future #1 overall . There could be no football and Carolina could essentially have the #1 overall pick in 2 consecutive drafts.

I've heard this but wouldn't it be a lotto? Seems unfair to go in the same order. What suggests the NFL would go in the same order?

The thing I do not like most about this, without a CBA no free-agents, teams (all of them) have to go into the draft shooting from the hip, and make FA adjust to their drafts. I guess that makes the guys we target in FA more valueable when the CBA does get reached because we'll NEED those guys who we targeted in FA, and thats not good. I am just glad we have alot of money to work with.

With a rookie cap, keeping the first pick and getting a top tier guy, makes it all worth it. Trading down, as many of us want, does not always mean success. I would rather take 1 impact player at #1 overall then get 2 extra guys that may not see the field.
