Proehl interviews for wr coach

monstercat is the most pessimistic poster on this board.

LOL, that's pretty funny since I've been accused numerous times of being a Panthers cheerleader.

I just don't get the excitement over these unproven coaches. I'm convinced that I could throw just about any name out there as a new hire and half this board would cream their jeans, even if they know absolutely nothing about the guy as a coach.

I understand and someone has to put some of the posters in their place when it comes to excitement. But I have just seen u bash everyone of the coaching moves so far that ive read. Its your prerogative tho. I think we are all just excited and these coaching moves cant make everyone happy.

Of course Proehl is unproven as a coach but he was known as a very smart player who understood a lot about how to dissect defenses. He was never very big or fast so had to uses his football savvy to find the soft parts of the defense. If I remember correctly Smith credited him with helping him develop.

It isn't exactly rocket science to be a wide receivers coach and he has the pedigree as a player playing in the greatest show on turf in St Louis. If he is a good teacher and communicator, he seems a great choice.

Lets at least hold down the bashing until we sign him, if we do.

Ricky has proven in the past that he has the ability to communicate as a teacher, both with Smith during his early NFL development and recently working with young talent at his facility. Based on that fact, and that he succeeded by doing everything the right way as a receiver because he couldn't rely on his physical gifts, I'd fully support this hire.

I'm not bashing anybody. I'm simply not ready to proclaim that he's the bestest WR's coach ever just because he was a good player and we all liked him. He has a lot to prove, just like the rest of these coaches.
