Well I can't help but get excited even if it is excitement based on my heart not head. I want him cause I loved him as a player. But I have no clue how he stacks up compared to other coaching candidates.

my feelings exactly - much as I would like him back with us i want the best coaches we can get

I think its all relative. If a guy fits what you want in a coach, there is only so many drills that you can do, giving the WR's a players perspective both in the film room and with regard to the offense, no matter how he "coaches" he'll be an upgrade. Because he can TEACH the guys what to look for in film and how to be seamless as a threat in the offense. He will be an amazing hire for this club.

Im guessing most people who aren't sold on him either were'nt watching the games when he played or just didn't pay attention to him on the sidelines. He was our WR coach for the most part. I also remember Smitty begging him not to retire because he was so instrumental in his development.

This would be awesome, seems like a move to try and convince Smitty to stay as well.

IIRC, Smitty even contacted Ricky's wife begging her to make him stay a panther, knowing she has the final say in anything! Golly those times seem so long ago, don't they.
