A positive spin on Clausen

Those numbers say that when the rushing game got better, so did Jimmy. And if you want to take the entire list of things working against him that I posted and throw everything out but my comment on the ground game, go ahead. It says a lot about how desperate you are to make a point, and little else.

but again, he wasn't actual more productive. You can point to a slight change in comp % or QB rating. His yardage, TDs, INT, and the manner he played the game, his weaknesses were all the same from week 2 through week 17.

Your list is purely opinion and a lot of it was chicken/egg.

Were the receivers unproductive because of Jimmy or were the receivers unproductive and it just hurt Jimmy's numbers?

Lots of evidence suggests that even if he had 4 all pros out there, he wouldn't get them the ball anyway. Look at Smitty with and without Moore, he had as many catches, yards and more TDs with Moore in 3.5 games than he did with Clausen all year. Gettis and LaFell both looked legit with Moore, not so much with Jimmy.

While you post some reasons that could hinder a rookie QB, the more likely answer is that the QB hindered everyone else.

well, the fact every TD scored by a WR came when Jimmy was on the bench....you would have to come to the conclusion he was hurting them not the other way around.

By that logic you could definitively state that Moore, Pike, and St. Pierre were incapable of throwing to their TEs and Backs. :)

last time I checked, in that offense (Fox's) RBs run and TEs block. It was what it was.

Moore/BSP tried to run it. Clausen didn't. Every time a QB not named Clausen started a game we averaged at WR in the endzone per game.

At this point what Clausen did or didn't do in 2010 is really water under the bridge. Honestly beating it up makes little sense. He is going to be here for 3 more years and will get a chance to play under new management. There will also be competition from at least 1 veteran for the spot.

Is there really anymore to say that hasn't been said?

Seems to me that the same people go back and forth page after page and little if any new information will come to light. Bottom line is that the only issue is what the new coaches think of him and that will be detemined in the next 6 months. I doubt this post will change anything but I am not alone in thinking that this back and forth is a waste of time.

With that said I will get off my soapbox. LOL

I wish Brees' could mentor Clausen, but we all know that isn't gonna happen.

1) Brees makes his reads and decisions at the speed of light.

2) Brees has a strong and pin-point accurate arm.

3) Brees has one of the fastest damn releases in the league.

2 of those 3 cannot be taught or learned through a mentor.

I think that you mean we averaged a TD by a WR in the end zone. And you would be correct. But it sounds like you've reduced your argument to that of "If a QB throws a TD to a WR, he's good, otherwise, he's not" and that's absurd.

We only had two games all year where we had good QB play--Zona and San Fran. One good game by JC, one by MM. The rest were very forgettable (although JC had a valiant effort in NO). And our receiver play was just plain bad all year. You can blame the QB, but look at the dropped balls first. It's not all their fault. And they dropped them on everyone. Don't forget, Moore's numbers were just as bad as Jimmy's, he just threw the ball to WRs instead of TEs.

And focusing on the WR production should also get you thinking about the offensive system we ran. WRs have rarely thrived in it in the first place, right?

JC had a bad year, all our QBs did. I expect that both he and Pike will improve. A lot.
