Vince Young a possibility/opportunity for us perhaps???

He isn't coming here. Jerry won't sign off on it. Plus Vince thinks he is an elite QB so he isn't signing a two year deal with lots of incentives. Someone will give him a multiyear deal worth good money. Given history; it won't be the Panthers. Heck look at the contract Jake got last year and he was old and busted up.

For the record, Beason was asked on WFNZ about anybody he'd like to see the Panthers bring in and the first name he came up with was Vince Young, said the guy was a winner and just because he had issues there doesn't mean he would have issues here...

He also mentioned McNabb, said he thought McNabb's problems in DC were more about a personality conflict then poor play.

I would take either Young or McNabb as our stop gap. I guess from a mentor stand point McNabb would be a better option BUT I just feel like he will end up hurt. Maybe I am wrong but Young seams more durable.

Regarding the "he is a headcase" and no way "regardless of talent" crowd I say :boxing_smiley:

If the coaching staff thinks they can bring in Young, work with him and he is a good fit- YOU DO IT!! I will leave it up to them to make that decision BUT with the state the QB position is in and this offense they need to at least look into it.

And this is why players shouldn't talk about roster moves.

I watched Vince Young's interview with Marcellus Wiley. When Wiley asked Young how he would feel about being a backup qb, his first reation was laughter and said "that's funny". (He then went on and said he is a starting QB, but if the coach decided to make him a backup, that is their decision) To me, his first reaction was a little immature, and I just don't trust him as a leader. People keep saying he's a winner. I don't want a winner, I want a win-it-all guy under center. I don't want a guy who will give me a decent regular season record, I want a guy who will win championships.

Well, if we assume that VY could get his act together here or McNabb's problems really were just the result of a personality conflict in DC, then we would be a hell of allot better off with either one of these guys then anything we have right now.

With all the issues he's had, the owner choosing the coach over him, all teams saying they wouldn't want him as their starting QB, he LAUGHS at the thought of being a backup QB.

Does that seem like someone who has gotten humbled or who has their act together?

McNabb will end up in San Fran I think so it's pointless to talk about

Disagree with a QB who just finished his 5th year in the league can't have more potential than Clausen or Moore. I think its totally possible VY was(or even possibly)is on the UP swing in his career. I personally think its just as likely if not more likely that Clausen or Moore are not going to peak out even close to what we've seen from VY thus far.

Please don't think I'm trying to proclaim VY the answer at QB, because I'm not. I just think he still has the potential to be a top 10 QB in the league, and I think he should be "considered" here. Obviously we'd have to put him up against all options... but I think he'd have better prospects than what is currently on the roster, with the upside of potentially being able to un-tap the talent that was a former rookie of the year.

I wasn't comparing him to Clausen or Moore, I was simply analyzing him on his merit. He may be better than those guys, but he could also cause so much drama that it just isn't worth the minimal gain in talent. Fact is he is not a good QB in the NFL, he is a solid backup with no leadership skills and no limited respectability. It is no compliment IMO to say he was better than a 2nd round rookie and an undrafted QB.

I'd rather roll with what we have, hope they improve, and take the high pick if they dont. I'd take that over his drama, lack of basic intelligence, and "never gonna be as good as he thinks he is" attitude who will lead us to 8-8 every year and no chance of playoff success.

Young is a physical talent for sure. But 75% of a quarterback's worth is what is between his ears. To this point Vince hasn't exactly shown great leadership or instilled great confidence in his players or coach. Seems to me he would have a lot to prove before a team would want to make him their starter. I would like to think he has the intangibles to be an NFl starter. So far I have seen little to support that.
