Vince Young a possibility/opportunity for us perhaps???

I think it depends entirely on the contract he demands. If he's willing to sign a 1 year contract with a team option for a 1 yr extension and be at or near vet min (see Vick) I would be fine with signing him. His athleticism alone opens up our offense and gives Chud plenty of options and would be huge for our running game (see CJs record breaking year).

Think about it VY, Dwill (I think he will be back), Stewart, Goodson, SS, Gettis, and possibly AJ Green that offense looks awesome (of course only on paper). My main concern is the same as everyone else his intangibles. But a 1 yr deal isn't much of a gamble and it has shown that those types of gambles can work out well (see Vick again and he was just out of Prison).

A 1 or 2 year stop gap is all most people are wanting this year in FA (Volek, Orton, or Mcnabb which I think we should bring in to mentor VY and the young qbs on this roster) so really why not take that gamble with a guy that brings so much diversity to an offense.

PS said the same things about Vick and was roasted for it back when we (meaning the huddle doubt the FO even considered it) were toying with the idea of signing him

When did Volek, Orton or any other free agent whine about being booed, throw their pads in the stands, get stuck in the middle of a suicide watch or wind up in a situation where nobody on their team or coaching staff wanted to keep them?

We would need to sign him to a short term, no-nonsense, little liability contract. Fill it up with performance incentives, but also have a clause in there that if he is a detriment to the team, then he can bet let go at any time.

If he performs while not going batshit crazy, he gets paid. If he doesn't, then we can let him go without penalty. It's a win/win for both parties.

Your forgetting about a wasted roster spot but otherwise I agree. There really isn't much risk if its a deal akin to the Vick deal. But it really doesn't matter because VY will not be a panther I can promise you that. Nothing in our FO history suggests they would even consider it (of course that was Fox so who knows).

You guys are easy to wind up, then you spin spin spin.....please look at the Panther's history and let me know when we actually picked up a FA QB that wasn't a relatively unknown backup with potential? (Reiche, Beuerlein, J Lewis, Delhomme, Moore). They try and find high draft picks for QB (Collins, Weinke, Clausen), but they suck at that.

Based on history, we will give Moore and Clausen another try this season and maybe bring in a Testiverte type guy to step in if all hell breaks loose.

Trust me, I hate it, but it is what it is.

A) Chris Weinke was a 4th round draft pick, so you can't really call that "high"

B) Kerry Collins wasn't a horrible player when he was here, just a horrible person that ended up quitting on the team.

a) tru dat....sorry for the mis-information....still stuck with the guy way too long.

B) Collins was and is a great player who had an addiction problem....with help he treated it....now he's one of the best back up QBs in the league and may be starting next year again. He went to a superbowl in NY and took Tenn. to an amazing record a couple years ago.

Not bad for the #1 overall pick of the Panthers franchise. Thats just sad when that is considered alright by us. Face it this Franchise is horrible when it comes to QBs. When Jake is your Franchises best QB (Beuerlein was to me but was short lived) thats just sad.

The fact is, there are only a handful #1 overall QB draft picks in a 20 year period that live up to the pick. That's why it's so important for a team to actually be able to evaluate talent and find QBs (Farve from ATL to GB, Steve Young from TB to SF, Brees from SD to NO...ect) Some teams have never had a great QB. It's such a crap shoot with draft picks and I'd say for every 5 top draft picks only 1 turns out to be a success.

Desperate men do desperate deeds.....I do not think JR wants a repeat of last year on offense

Beason may want him here, but sometime Beason speaks to the media before thinking things through thoroughly - IMHO. Beason is great, and I'm not bashing him. The man wants to win and I respect that. He just wants QB that can give the offense a chance. He would probably say he wanted any QB here if they had won some games and could be available.

That said, I doubt Jerry brings him in. He is a basket case and no place for him in Carolina. VY needs to go back up a solid QB that can teach him how to act, study and lead. Not come here and teach piss poor habits to our young and impressionable QB's. Signing VY would be like saying "fudge it....what the heck...lets see what happens!" Decisions made like that rarely turn out the way you hoped they would.
