2011 Mock offseason & draft ~ SIGN UP NOW!

I think everyone is agreed we will have a limit on the amount of player trades each team can do as well as some guidelines to keep trades within reason. So this is what I'm thinking now for free agency...

A limited free agency period, where all RFAs and lower end URFAs are assumed to stay with their original team.

The top 4 free agents from each team enter the free agent pool.

Everyone gets the free use to franchise one of their players, so really only 3 players from each team enter the pool.

Each team is given the same amount of money to work with (let's say $40 million).

Free agents are listed in two threads, one for offense and one for defense, where you can bid on them. Will be less than 50 players to look over in each thread, I can update one thread and Carolina Crazy V2 or another volunteer handles the other.

We have over a month before the combine so we should have plenty of time to do this, otherwise we'd just be waiting to do a draft.

Anyone have a problem doing this other than Urrymonster? I'll leave it up to you guys, whatever you want to do.

I'd suggest this format:

all RFA's are retained by original team

offseason budget of $40 M can be spent as follows:

signing their own UFAs with some sort of general guide to an offer tier system... like a 1st level tier offer can be like $5M, a second level tier $4M, a third level tier $3M, a 4th level tier $2M, and so on...

signing other teams UFAs that they did not tender a UFA tier value higher than $5M... for instance, say I offered one of my UFAs a $4M tier... another team can offer him a $5M bid, but they also have to add an extra cost (say $2M flat?) to sign away one of my players... I will also have the option to match their $5M tier to retain the player at no additional cost...

Rookie pay scale... We'll need some sort of tier for this as well, for each pick number itself, maybe... as in, if you pick 1st overall, you are to attribute a cost of $8M towards your salary cap... Of course, that number will decrease with each pick enough so that maybe almost a half of your cap will go to rookies in the draft and the other half in free agency...

limit player for player trades to maybe 2 or 3 deals per team, and put it up for 5 or so other owner's approvals... limit player for pick trades to like 2 or 3 per team also... Also, slap a price tag of $1 or 2 M per trade on both parties involved that counts towards their cap...

just using the Bears in my examples above... It would end up something like this without trades:

(may not be 100% accurate)

QB Todd Collins UFA - $1M tier

RB Garrett Wolfe RFA

FB Eddie Williams RFA

TE Desmond Clark UFA - $1M tier

P Brad Maynard UFA - $1M tier

OT Aaron Brant UFA - $1M tier

OG Josh Beekman UFA - $1M tier

C Olin Kreutz UFA - $4M tier

C Patrick Mannelly UFA - $1M tier

DL Anthony Adams UFA - $3M tier

CB Corey Graham UFA - $1M tier

Total on my own FA's $14M...

draft picks

1.31 - $6M

2.62- $4M

3.93 - $2M

4.124 - $1M

5.155 - $500K

6.186 - $250k

Total draft pick value = $13.75M

That leaves me $12.25M under the cap to go out and sign a couple of FAs/make a couple trades...

Lol, sorry if it sounded like I was always criticising! Just didn't want you to be taking on crap loads of work.

Just out of interest are we going with the current no CBA, needs 6 years to reach free agency rules (which would essentially make 75% of FA's RFA)? Or the normal 4 years?

I am happy with whatever everyone decides, as long as we have a system in place that keeps things ticking along. It would be a shame if it doesn't get completed :(

Once the last two teams are taken everyone needs to set up their own teams depth chart and everyone needs to use the one and same accurate web site listing the teams UFA's. Everyone then needs to list the top 3 UFA's from their team to be added to free agency and the rest of the UFA's and RFA's are either retained or let go. Then people can start trading.

However, I would not put a limit on trading draft picks because last year a lot of people liked to scavage up some draft picks.

My 2 cents (2 penny's)

This is how it needs to work and I will help with the UFA's if needed.

Rather than have people choose their top free agents I thought it would be better to use a neutral site like walterfootball. This is their list for the Panthers top FAs for example:

# Ryan Kalil, C, Panthers. Age: 25

# DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers. Age: 27

# Charles Johnson, DE, Panthers. Age: 25

# James Anderson, OLB, Panthers. Age: 27
