I would love to see us get an Aaron Rogers later in the draft

Yea, but the only reason Rodgers was at 23, is because the 49ers FO was dumb as poo.

If Rodgers had been thrust into the starting QB position for the 49ers and given five different OCs in five years, then he would probably be looking for a job this offseason just like Smith is.

Look, before we start a back and forth on this, I agree to an extent, BUT...when it comes to playing at a high level at the QB position, either you have it in you, or you don't. Sometimes guys do need to sit. Others can start right away. Who's to say Aaron Rodgers wouldn't have been the same guy had he been put out there? It doesn't work the same for everyone.

This.

Hurney spent 8 of the last 9 drafts grabbing guys that fit specifically into Fox's scheme and were also guys that Fox wanted. Does anyone think that he is really going to do any different with Rivera?

Yeah I think this will be different.I am paraphrasing but Richardson said that in the past they did what the coaches wanted to do. This time they are going to make the decisions and the coaches will have to go along. So it appears that Rivera will have a say but won't be the primary decisionmaker.

Umm not sure that is right. Rivera said he would tell marty what type of offense and defense they would run and Marty would find the players to fit the system.

That is how good teams are built. We finally got bad coaching/ Systems out of here, so lets give Rivera what he wants talent wise and see how it goes

And if you don't have a staff that can develop a QB (for a lot of QBs, not all) it doesn't really matter where he is drafted....Ryan Leaf? but Leaf is a bad example cuz he just sucked and fooled everybody.

Actually, Leaf is the perfect example: it takes more than talent to succeed at QB in the NFL. Make no mistake, Leaf was an elite talent, but he had no work ethic, a diva attitude, and was only in it for the fame and money. Peyton Mannings tools, with that head and attitude, would equal the same bust of a player.

Work ethic and desire to win are incredibly underrated in talent evaluation. Remember these when discussing Ryan Mallett as the draft gets closer...from what I hear he has neither.
