American Idol

Catching up...

Scotty: Whether you like his thing or not, he is just great at what he does. If he got voted off tomorrow, he'd dtill get a record contract. Bright future ahead for this boy.

Naima: I like reggae, and I like that song okay. I absolutely hated her performance. The whole performance reminded me of Samuel E Wright faking a Jamaican accent for "Unda da Sea".

Paul: Liked him pretty well until he got to the chorus. Then I thought he started trying too hard. Remaining simple and understated would have been better.

Pia: I think I could start every review of Pia with the phrase "good grief, she's hot" and be right each time. She was good again, but boring (reminds me of Anwar Robinson in that regard). Still think she ends up an actress or model rather than a singer.

Stefano: I've begun to think "Stefano" must be Italian for "also ran" because that's really all I see in him. His first note on that song was totally off. I get that girls like his looks and all, but come on :nonod:

Lauren: Odd song choice for her. She's extremely good ane very marketable. Think she'll end up singing country along with Scotty. Steven Tyler still makes me feel icky when he talks to her, though.

James: Always hated that song, but it's impossible to dislike James. The crowds absolutely love him. Tyler actually gave him some good advice.

Thia: Yes, she can sing. Have to say that for me, Thia is falling further and further into that category of "performer that's good on the show but nobody's going to remember after it's over". Maybe she'll be able to parlay it into something. Don't know.

Casey: Glad he got away from his usual bit and tried to just sing something tonight. Unfortunately, what that brought out and highlighted for me is that he's honestly not that great as a pure singer. That said, there are better singers on the show that probably won't last as long as him due to the fact that they don't stand out like he does. The cut and trim was a good choice.

Jacob: If the show were based purely on who was the best singer, you'd probably have to give it to Jacob. The only contestant that has a range approaching his is James. Because the show does involve other factors, I don't think he'll wind up in the top two. But as a pure singer, he's hard to match.

Haley: is there any doubt that she knows she's cute? If so, her doing a sultry "Fabulous baker Boys" type routine draped across a piano would certainly remove any questions. She's still not the greatest singer, and that probably wasn't the right song for her. Positive judging aside, I think she could go home on that one.

Summing it up, I'd send Naima home myself, but then I probably would have done that two weeks ago. If not her, maybe Haley, Stefano or Thia.

I've finally figured out Hailey....she's the female version of Paul. The song makes/breaks her.

Pia killed it as usual.

Lauren killed it.

James/Scotty/Thia/Paul were mixed in.

Naima, Stefano (despite being good), and Casey are bottem three. Naima or Stefano goes home.

I manage :D

The fug? That performance just put her in the top 3. She's really the only singer who hasn't missed a note since this thing started.

Casey will get a bounce from being voted off last week. People will vote for him extra.

I'd guess the bottom as Naima, Stefano, and Thia.

Disagree on both counts.

I know I'm in the minority on Haley's performance. Sorry folks. I just didn't like it.

James is like a 12 year old autistic kid trying to sing rock and roll songs. Way off pitch and all about self indulgence instead of the song. If you look past the fire and the jumping splits you'll see that he can't actually sing for poo.

My bottom 3 would be Stefano, Thia, and Paul... Naima could switch out with any of them for all I care...

Stefano just plain sucks to me. All his songs are sung the same, with no real emotion behind them.

Thia is just in way over her head. She picks bad songs, even if she sings them really well. She has a great voice, but isn't mature enough to know what she's doing yet.

Paul is just too unique/different to be on Idol. His style comes off as boring and uninteresting. He should have shined last night, as his voice is the most similar to Elton's of anyone on the show.

Naima's twist was really good to me, but I don't think America will get it. She's actually taking the most risks more consistently than anyone, but it isn't really paying off for her.

Scotty surprised me tonight. I really liked his song choice and his performance. I was hating him pretty hard before now, and still think he is a one-trick pony, but he did his trick really well last night.

Casey bounced back fierce. He's easily the most overall talented and diverse artist Idol has had in a long, long time.

Pia was good again, but I could tell during her performance that she was nervous about something... glad they let her confirm that she was having vocal trouble earlier in the week.

Jacob is still amazing.

Haley is another that surprised me. She did really really good, and I usually can't stand her.

James was more show than singing, and he better be careful in getting too cocky about his performance itself and focus a little more on singing. The same thing that happened with Casey could easily happen to him.

Lauren was great. She'll have a strong career post-Idol.

Jacob is the best singer. Clearly. He won't win cause he's not the "voters" cup of tea, but his voice is light years above anyone in the competition right now, he may be in the top 3 of all time on Idol that I've seen. I don't even like his genre, but I can't deny his talent.

Pia is great but very, very, boring. She won't win this, I think she'll probably make top 5 though.

Scotty was great, and yeah he's going to sound kind of the same. What else can he do? I like him with his guitar though, I hate when he tries to move around, it just doesn't fit him. I think he'll get a record deal faster than anyone in the competition, he's ready for country, he's young and would bring a young crowd.

Thia is boring. She's good, but boring, she'll be gone soon.

Naima is shoving her culture/etc down people's throats at this point and people are probably tired of it. She's not super great either. I think this is what happened to Karen with her over the top Spanish stuff earlier this season. It's cool to do something to reflect you one week but when it starts getting TOO much, it's annoying.

Stefano was lackluster, he's boring, but they may keep him for his looks, but he's not that great.

James wasn't super great, it was a performance more than a good singing showcase, and I think he'll get a pass on that, cause "Saturday" is just a rocker song. It would be wise for him to come out next week with something that showcases his singing ability. I think he can sing really well as well as rock out.

Haley, was OK, personally I didn't think it was as good as the judges. I've thought some of her past performances were better than the judges gave her credit for. I think she'll be gone soon though.

I think the best of the night was Lauren. She nailed that song and showed another side of her.

Casey, I thought did really well. I think he can sing better than people give him credit for. He chose to leave the gimmicks behind and I think it worked out.

Paul, like someone said, isn't right for Idol. His voice is different, I think it's a "love it or hate it" voice, but it's different. He needs to be a singer/songwriter, making songs to cater to his strengths, and please keep the guitar cause when you move around it's really annoying.

Bottom 3? I think Naima, Stefano, and Thia.

I don't understand what you don't see in Stefano. Other than Jacob, he brings the most emotion into the songs, he has an incredible voice, he could be extremely marketable, he uses the stage, and he's been consistent. On top of all that, I've seen more improvement in him than anyone else.

Watch this and tell me anything I said was wrong. He's good. Real good.
