Kiper has us taking Fairley, McShay has us taking Bowers

For those who want AJ, To me, wide receivers are a dime a dozen, and we can find and develop a receiver later on. (cough* Lafell/Gettis cough*) AJ Green would be a disaster of a pick. Compare AJ's college statistics to Dwayne Jarrett's

Bullshit.

Their style of play, personalities and work ethic are completely different.

Green > Jarret in every way

Plus Jarret played with Leinart, Green played with QBs who's names I cant remember

Locker?

Are you still high on him? I remember you saying you liked him.

Lots of people worried about his play this year. What do you think about it?

McCoy was pretty damn impressive this season and actually had a better pressure-per-play than Suh.

However I think the general concept of your post is right. There is a lot of talent in this draft, just amazingly not at QB where almost all potential draftees are genuine projects (learning completely new play style).

Honestly?

if Luck hadn't been in the conversation I guarantee Gabbert would have been talked about (not necessarily for #1, but high) earlier than this. If Locker hadn't blown this year, he woulda been too.

Luck was just so far ahead of everyone...

I mean, people act like the only player you take at #1 is a Luck-type player. That's just not true. Very few drafts have so called "sure fires" at that level

But usually the best QB will always declare, which hasn't happened. Imagine if Gabbert didn't declare...

I was just giving dude a hard time. He's still on the Cam Newton #1 bandwagon so I made a joke.

In all seriousness I feel like Locker is the forgotten man, partly because he plays in the Northwest and partly because he didn't have a monster year. He's got just as many tools as everyone else and I think his ceiling is higher than most. That being said, it only takes one coach/gm to fall in love with one player (The Golden Calf of Bristol situation) and all the draft rankings go out the window. What makes a difference for most of these guys, especially QBs, is the situation they get drafted into. None of them can play now so in the end I think the player with the most success will be the player that gets to go to a decent team and sit for at least half the season.

Do I think he's #1 worthy? No

Top 10 worhty? Probably not

He's my 2nd QB somewhere late first early second.

He could go a lot sooner to a team with a huge need and a dream or he might go later but I think him and Gabbert are similar with Newton and Mallet 3rd/4th, or 4th/3rd. Mallet is ready to play sooner than Newton but each of them have their issues, one player on and off and the other mostly off.

I could see a team as high as Tennessee (or any of the teams after them in need of a QB) taking a chance on Locker. A lot of people think Tenn. will go after Cam Newton, but I think they'll choose someone with absolutely no question on character instead if they go QB.

I've not seen enough of Locker to say much definitive either way of him myself.

Honestly I don't see enough from Bowers' film to warrant a #1 overall pick, just my opinion.

If you are looking to draft the best player available, I find it hard to argue against picking AJ Green or Patrick Peterson.

AJ Green would give us an instant upgrade on offense now, and a potential perennial pro bowler for years to come. When Steve is gone (may be sooner than later), the offense will never miss a beat at the WR position in his absence and might actually be better. This is the best player to draft to enhance our passing game in the future. More weapons = more points. The QB will be able to get him the ball, if not Clausen, someone. Relax QB naysayers.

Patrick Peterson would actually immediately upgrade two positions. Punt returner and cornerback. He has Hester-esque abilities on returns with much much higher potential defensively. He is the best athlete in the draft.

You just don't take a CB with the #1 pick.... you just don't....

I've been on the fence about AJ Green. But we have potential at the WR position, we need to bolster that interior line and get our dominate front 4 back in place. Championships are won in the trenches people.

The only reason McShay and Kiper disagree is because they are rivals, and in situtations like this Draft, they want to be right...so whoever came out with their latest mock first, the other had to be different...just so they might be right and more "credible".

You may be right but I think they also value different things, and are influenced by different factors about players... like if they'll pay Kiper money or not.

Never happened before but that doesn't mean they won't

    • I think we’re evaluating them for depth. Pretty much every position on defense can use an upgrade
    • Nobody said he isn’t because BY got benched for a reason. But the discussion has always been if Bryce is “closing the gap” since he returned as a starter. Legitimate conversation don’t you think?
