McDermott was in over his head in Philly

Lol.... You guys are so funny...

When units on our team under performs it's pretty much always the coaches fault according to this board.

When we get a coach from a team or unit that underperformed it's the players or other coaches/front office fault.

Dude, you're preaching to the choir with that sentiment to me. I'm concerned about our OC pick up. The DC, not so much, because Rivera is going to pull his strings.

Philly's D has been in a slow decline from a personnel standpoint and now they have started to show it, big time. I'm not sure why Trotter felt the need to throw him under the bus like that, especially when he's not even on the roster. Personally, I think the rebuilding that turned into a playoff appearance this year will set them back even further. Now they have a QB decision to make.

For whatever crazy idea they got in there head. They will regret not keeping him. We have a Frankenstein of a D staff now. If were not in the top 5 of total D in the next two years I will be shocked. Brees and Matty better buy stock in ice makers cause they will be using them a lot.

After looking at Philly and Denver's poor defensive personnel, Mora jr decided not to coach for either team this year...I think McDermott did well with what he had to work with

I looked over Philly's D roster and I'm sure the Panthers have more to work with as of 2011. McDermott will have a good situation here....

If we upgrade the DT position significantly that could be true. But right now their front four as a group was better than ours this year. With Johnson already a beast and the maturation of young guys like Hardy and Brown and possible draft picks like Fairley, we could be pretty good next year. But it remains to be seen if we have better talent at this point.

Once Johnson was gone he has no help with Reid bring an O guy.

Here, he has Rivera and long time DC Meeks to talk to if needed. I think he's in a much better situation here. I also think we have better talent on D here, so that can't hurt.

The Panthers appear to be putting their coaches in a position to succeed.

Which unique to the last several years should put our players in a position to succeed.

Its kinda hard to live in JJ shadow. He also had Dick Jauron breathing down his back. Players didnt respect him like JJ it seems ether.

The bolded concerns me. I'm still so-so on the hire, but hopefully, a fresh start here will do him some good. I'm a defensive guy, so seeing our defense become a top 5 D would be amazing to me

A lot of guys who follow legendary leaders wind up in similar situations.

the word i hear on mcdermott's phillly tenure is that he struggled with the situational play calling, that is he didn't put players in the right postion to make plays on a regular basis. he probably could have adjusted his scheme cause of all the injuries that had also. but i don't here anybody questioning his ability to coach, gameplan etc, etc.
