also remember this. since like u said about the cba the draft is happening for sure. Haloti Ngata is not for sure. Thus Fairley will be the pick ending any Ngata speculation.

It says SF was running it so this might have been written prior to 2007 before they switched to 3-4, but this is the best reference I could find. I know reading this is going to galvanize the interest of Fairley fanatics, whom are automatically going to look at the diagram and assume he is going to step into that delicious looking NT spot between the center and right guard and anchor the line and skullf**k the QB with his big toe, instead of reading the text under it. I say this because I estimate at least 25% of the Huddle population doesn't know what a gap is and 75% don't know what a technique is. The position the NT spot is in is the 1-technique. Fairley played in the 3-technique spot in Auburn, which is exactly where the UT is lined up. A lot of scouts have speculated that he is strictly a 3-tech DT at the pro level, kinda like Warren Sapp was, or for a more recent draft comparison, Gerald McCoy, whom TB drafted to fill that spot on their Tampa 2.

we draft fairley for the 3 tech and then pick up haynesworth for the NT.

Johnson ran a similar 4-3 under similar to Fox. I suspect we will run the same line formations. One difference was that Fox typically put the nose tackle over the center in a 2 gap 0 technique (lined up over the center responsible for stuffing the A gap which is the space between the center and guard on either side. Whereas Johnson put the center in the A gap on the strong side ( between the center and guard lined on the side where the tight end is lined up on).

As for who we will want? Fairley could play the 3 technique or the 1 technique. He is big and strong enough to play in a 2 gap or 1 gap system. But he would fine in Johnson's system. Could he be a 3-4 nose tackle?? Possible but he would need some work. He reminds me of Kris Jenkins and is best suited for a 4-3 3 technique tackle lined up between the guard and tackle in the B gap.
