Matt Moore: I would love to stay in Carolina

What is cheap to you guys? Whitehurst, a guy that never took a snap, got 10 mil over two years. Many backup QBs make 3-4 mil a year. Too expensive or too cheap for him? If were bringing in someone to potentially start they will want more than that.

Point is money won't be an issue. If they like him I think they'll come to a 3-4 year deal in the range of 10-12 mil

I don't see the Panthers forking serious cash to sign Matt Moore AND an FA. That's all I'm saying.

The Panthers are not going to sign two 3-4 year contracts for a potential starting QB this off-season and still no certain franchise QB especially with the lockout looming over the NFL. They will do one, I can see that, but the other guy will be a safety net and will have to come cheap.

With Matt Moore coming off surgery, his image being tarnished last year, I don't see him strong enough as a candidate to pull a 4 year contract out of the Panthers unless it is for a safety-net QB position(either as "potential" starter/full time back up) and cheap.

I do think it will come down to money. But I also don't think Matt Moore will put up too big a fight. I think he will come cheap and take what he's offered if they offer him anything.

You know I love Moore as much as any other Moore supporter on this board but you have to be realistic too. The fact is Moore has not thrown a ball in months and isn't schedule to start throwing again for a couple of more months. We don't even know what effect that had on his game yet.

It's a moot point anyway right now because of the CBA. No way we find out anything about Moore until AFTER the new CBA is in place and who knows how long that might take and how the playing field-no pun intended-changes by that time.

Didn't see what you considered cheap in there...do you have any numbers in mind or just general?

I'd jump all over that for a good backup with potential.

I don't think they drop Clausen any lower than #2, more based on politics than anything. If we bring in a vet, I think Moore is gone. If not, I think we try to keep Matt and start the year Clausen/Moore/Developmental Guy (again, based on potential and politics more than anything).

Yeah I don't think that's an unreasonable contract for someone like him, it could be much worse. I guess I should have specified in an unbiased competition, where would he rank on the depth chart?

Not sure why you'd consider that unlikely.

Coaches tend to be detail guys that explore all possible options.

(as a side note, I've been accused of being numerous people)

The only person I've been accused of being is Moore's secret gay lover.

No I don't have particular numbers in mind. It all depends on the Panthers books, salary cap, financial planning etc and I have no access to that, but it would have to be something that the Panthers organization would consider a "good deal" in their favor.

That's basically the only way I see Moore coming back here. I see the Panthers willing to pay him back-up money for the potential of him developing into a very solid starting QB but without them having to pay anything significant for that risk. I don't see them paying him more than they would some of the FA's out there, say like VY, when hey could end up paying for a potential career "back-up".

If they feel like they can get him at a steal price they take him. This is just my opinion though.

I think all FA will probably get about the same amount of money. Most of them are in the same category talent wise so no one will be demanding a boat load of money (VY maybe but again, no one wants him as their starting QB so his options will be limited thus probably taking less money with more incentives).

Moore will probably be the cheapest because of his stated desire to stay in Carolina and his recent injury. I think he will have other offers but if the Panthers are close in terms of numbers I think he stays here.

...and speaking of players or former players having opinions about who we should go get, let the record show that Dan Morgan thought we should get Vick last year and people ran him outta here like he was insane, then Vick had the season he just had.

Maybe we should listen to Beason about VY or McNabb after all?

Don't assume the Panthers organization views VY with the same dismay as a lot of members on this board. And I'm only using VY as an example for my argument below. You can substitute anyone else of equal caliber from FA and the argument would still stand.

Put it to you this way: Moore and Clausen in training camp....I see Moore winning the starting job easily assuming he comes back from surgery in top shape.

VY and Moore in training camp. Same type of difference. VY wins starting position easily. Not only that, but I actually think the depth chart would be VY at #1 going into training camp.

As things stand right now can you really see the depth chart looking like this: #1 Moore, #2 Vince Young # 3 Clausen?

I can't and for that reason I don't see Moore being able to come here for anything than 2nd or 3rd string money. Or possibly another 1 year contract with options. Can Matt prove he deserves that in training camp? Sure. But the contract, if there will be one, will be signed prior to him being able to prove himself. And I just don't see the Panthers paying him big on potential once again.

We don't have Andy Reid.

I don't know how Rivera would feel about picking up the guy who nearly cost a former teammate and colleague his job.

I never said their opinions were right or wrong but it's not their place to say who should be brought in, especially when said player goes against everything the FO stands for.

How is Jimmy supposed to take control of the offense when the leader of the team is openly requesting a different player to be there.

To be honest, most players are too dumb to know the impact of signing player x or player y, that's why they get paid to play and that's why they pay their agents to worry about that other stuff.

I think it's just very tasteless, but back to your point about Vick and Morgan being right now Beason on VY.

Every GM in the league said they don't want VY as their starter. Digest that for a second. All of them. But one MLB says we should and it's obviously the right choice?
