Matt Moore: I would love to stay in Carolina

who precisely do you think "can play" out of the FAs? which two is it you're after?

I could name a few guys.

My point however is, why bring a guy who you know can't play, versus bringing in a couple guys and letting them duke it out?

At least this way, there's a shot we'll get good QB play.

Don't get me wrong, I want a proven veteran in camp with those guys, but you might as well take a chance at maybe landing something rather than just holding onto Moore for the heck of it..

How do you know Moore can't play? Because of last year?? How many FA QBs do you think actually have never had a bad year?

Hell, what FA QB do you think WOULD have looked good in our offense last year??

I think we need to bring in another FA other than Moore, of course.

If you "know that he can't play" based on last year, then do you also "know" that DeAngelo Williams, Jordan Gross, Jimmy Clausen and others also can't play?

(they all looked pretty bad last season)

Moore looked fine the year before, and the year before that. Likewise, Clausen looked good enough in college to be worth a high draft pick.

Moore may or may not go to camp this year, but if he does, I'll be fine with it (and will, in fact, support it).

Williams and Gross have proven over the course of the long-term that they can play. Clausen has the excuse of being a rookie, and while I''m not so sold on that-at least he does have an excuse.

What's Moore's? He just picked a bad day to have a bad day every time he strapped them on?

The guy was just as bad as Clausen, and from a 4 year Vet, that's really unacceptable.

If Moore comes to camp and lights the world on fire, great, I'll be thrilled.

But he gave us no indication that he could do that last year when the big boy panties were finally strapped on for him. If he had played for a different team last year this wouldn't even be a question because he was that bad. We'd be laughing at the people suggesting him. It's simply because people here have grown some sort of odd attachment to him that we're having this conversation.

It, at this point, doesn't make a lick of sense to bring him back.

Yes, bad play-calling.

Yes, at times the OL was bad.

But was poor QB play not our biggest problem last year?

Davidson's play calling isn't what made Moore turn the ball over 3 times in the red zone in a very winnable game against NY Week 1.

Speaking of..

I think we should keep Moore, with the mindset that he'll be moderately cheap for a backup QB. I don't think it's fair to judge Moore, or Clausen after last year. It's obvious we had a lame duck coach who knew he was on the outs, an owner that went cheap and let important vets go, and a offensive coordinator who is a joke and to my knowledge, hasn't even been up for a new job across the NFL. The offensive line wasn't as great this year, and our QB's were getting a lot more pressure than they should have.<snip>

I just checked again, and you are correct.....no action on the Jeff Davidson front for filling coaching vacancies. Any judgment of last year's performances has to keep the Davidson/Fox lame duck angle in mind...Let the new staff see what they can use moving forward. If this means giving Matt Moore a look, why not? It's a completely different set of eyeballs with different expectations.

Again, Moore wasn't very good last year, but neither was anyone else on the roster really. Even with last year, Moore still has a winning record as a starter and a positive TD/Int ratio as a starter. He also had the only decent game we had last year in passing offense. What was he in his previous starts?? Do they "not matter" because we were eliminated from the playoffs?? Those games certainly mattered to the teams he played!

We may not be able to address QB to a "franchise" level this offseason. If that is the case, we'll have to go into next camp with the best we can given our situation, which could include Matt Moore.

Long time lurker, first time poster. After the season this team just had, there's no way I see JR trotting out Matt Moore & Jimmy Clausen next season. The fanbase would have a stroke. Moore is damaged goods, anyway. If they can't find an established vet to compete with Clausen, go for someone like Stanton or Kellen Clemens. Maybe they can find another Jake. Only better.

you call Moore damaged goods but want one of those two?

Nobody is saying you "trott" Moore out. You bring him to camp.

If he gets a roster spot over Pike, what's the big deal? He's not going to take Clausen's roster spot and they won't cut the other vet even if he beats him out.

I say you bring Volek, Moore, Clausen, and Pike to camp.

Keep the best three.
