Matt Moore: I would love to stay in Carolina

Hate to sound mean, but I swear some of you guys don't know the difference between "taking a guy to camp" and "naming a guy your starter" :nonod:

You take him to camp, see how he looks with the new coaches teaching him.

He still looks bad? Cut him and you lose nothing. The fourth guy is always cut every year anyway.

He looks better? You saved yourself from wasting a decent player.

We already have two young prospects, so take Moore and another veteran and you've got a decent mix and you're risking nothing of any substance.

Is this really that difficult to understand?

I'm not sure Moore will be at camp. After all, there's quite a few variables relating to a contract and his injury.

That being said, if we can get him, why not take him?

It seems unlikely we're going to take a QB this draft; if we do, it's clear they like him more than Pike at very least.

As Mr. Scot has said, there's no reason not to bring 4 QBs to camp. We're going to bring in a vet of some experience. This will leave room for three more. Our two young QBs will be brought along. A draft of a rookie might complicate matters, but that seems unlikely. Assuming that remains the case, there is no reason not to bring Moore to camp and see what he can do.

Carolina averaged 131 yards on the ground in Moore's 3 starts. One game they had only 69 yards on the ground. Small number of games really driven by 1 game.

Carolina averaged 151 yards rushing starting from Goodson's 1st start over the next 6 games. Consistantly going over 100 + in every single game. I would say in that stretch of games.......Clausen should have looked better than an undrafted Matt Moore.

Jimmy Clausen wasn't in a bad scenario the entire season....he just played poorly. That 6 game window was a perfect scenario for Clausen to show something. Prior to that window he saw action in 6 games w/ 3 starts under his belt to take some lumps and get some live game speed. During that 6 game window he had a VERY productive ground game, decent D, and ST. Not having Vinny T isn't the reason he blew then. Moore having Vinny T isn't the reason an undrafted rookie looked so much better. Clausen doesn't even have the physical tools/skill set of a very average Matt Moore. Clausen has a lot working against him that has nothing to w/ talent around him or coaching (from staff or players).

Agree with the running game, but Clausen was dealing with a bad pass blocking offensive line and defence.

Clausen's late season defence gave up: 31,24,31,31,12,27,31

Clausen offensive O-line was 3rd in the league with sacks allowed and 7th in Qb hits.

Along with two rookie WR's who were decent given the cirumstances. But by no mean good consistent options.

And Clasuen is a rookie himself. And of course people were critisizing the playcalling.

Now obviously he still somehow manged to play worse then the system he was sorrounded by.

But there's still no way you can say that he had it very good later in the season. There were alot of things going wrong.

What gets me is that people are arguing over which of them was better this past season.

Frankly, who cares? :nonod:

It was the old coaches, the old system, and a year under unique circumstances that won't happen again. What the heck does it matter who was better or worse?

Prior to this year, Clausen looked good in college and Moore looked good as a pro. This past season, nobody looked good, even players we know actually are.

So screw this past season, tae the guys to camp and let competition take care of the rest.

People act like taking a guy to camp that'll eventually get cut will somehow be our doom :frown2:

This is the point I tried to make earlier.

This league, and many of the fans of it, ultimately are "what have you done for me lately." Moore didn't look so great, and didn't have the rookie 'excuse.'

It's so hard to separate last season's players from the offense they floundered in, a lot of decisions will have to be made based on camp and past footage. Fans, however, will more often than not judge based on the last season.

There's a very real chance Moore would make the team, which I think has a lot of fans uncomfortable. There is a strong push to try to find "that guy" who can lead this team for the next decade, and very few people think it'll be Moore. So I think that is pushing many fans to push him away right now as to avoid being 'stuck' with him.

By the way, my take on the "pressure" comment seemed to me that he felt the pressure of having a 2nd round draft pick waiting in the wings, an entire media blitz section ready to tear his throat out if he even farted wrong, and a coach who didn't give two shits about developing him telling him not to fug up.

Yeah, I can see all you folks doing real well in that situation as well. My choice of 4 to take to camp has been well-documented the past couple of weeks now:

Brodie Croyle, Moore, Clausen, Pike/another FA/Draftee. Not a fan of gangly-ass Pike, but whatever if he stays. Of course, not a fan of Pickles either, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt enough for another season or two to learn. I'm hoping we get a kick-ass QB within the next two or three drafts, but I'm not holding my breath anymore for that one. :(

Taking a guy to camp you know can't play vs. Taking a guy to camp who might be able to play..

Which do you choose?

This is true. Alot of people (myself included) probably didn't want to look at it this way because of bias towards certain players, you know everyone has a favorite at each position, especially qb.

I'm on board with you here, but first they need to resign the guy or he won't be at camp.

If you "know that he can't play" based on last year, then do you also "know" that DeAngelo Williams, Jordan Gross, Jimmy Clausen and others also can't play?

(they all looked pretty bad last season)

Moore looked fine the year before, and the year before that. Likewise, Clausen looked good enough in college to be worth a high draft pick.

Moore may or may not go to camp this year, but if he does, I'll be fine with it (and will, in fact, support it).
