nothing unrealistic about it. We have had talent, just no one coached them or used them properly. also we haven't drafted yet or had FA (IF we have FA). There isn't anything at all unrealistic about being back in the playoffs in 2012

We still have arguably the best tandem in the league. (providing we resign DWill) 2010 was a wash.

Otah should be back in the mix. I wouldn't doubt that we draft another line man or bring in one. So the O-Line should be back to its beasty self. Gettis and LaFell were great additions and should start to blossom. I am sure we will bring in a Solid TE and I personally hope he shows Barnidge the ropes. And of course Steve Smith. A good offensive mind and a new outlook for Clausen will make a huge difference. Watch and See.

Defensively... Rivera and McDermott are going be drooling with this side of the ball. Lots of speed and pressure. You start bringing or hinting of blitzes is going to give Johnson, Hardy, Fairley (our #1 Pick) and Brown some pretty good one on one opportunities to get to the QB. We will resign Davis and our LB corp will be awesome once again... We have some young talent in the defensive backfield and Meeks will be able to focus on them, period.

We could easily rise as quickly has we fell.

Go Panthers

yeah... we still dont have something called a qb. it is kind of important to win games in the nfl

I think you are going to see a different Clausen next season. Most will agree that Davidson didn't have a clue. If the OC doesn't have a clue what do you think a QB is gonna have. Especially a rookie? NOT A CLUE.

SKI will change that. Clausen will be a better second year QB than a rookie. I have a little faith.

The hirings seem pretty good so far. I thought we would have to make McDermott HC to get him out of Philly but they fired him so we could get a HC like Rivera and still get McDermott. Sean will be great with some oversight guidance from Rivera.

Chud seems solid as well on the offensive end. And special teams will likely be top 10 this year.

As for concerns about coaching not being as important as talented players, history usually shows just the opposite. Look at Jason Garrett this year. He takes the exact same team that Phillips had earlier in the year and turns them around in a week or two. Guys like the Tuna have a history of getting more out of the same roster that was there under the predecessor. Good coaching trumps player talent most times. Largely because even supposedly average players in the NFL are pretty darn good. Plus motivation and effort make a huge difference. Look at how guys do much better in contract years. Great coaches can motivate guys and get contract year performance out of them every year.

Ya I think we have plenty of talent. The problem this year was the head coach didn't give a Damn.

The big complaint seems to be that Fox wasn't interested in developing the rookies and young guys preferring veterans. That is why the emphasis has been placed on finding teachers on this staff. Hurney thinks that Fox didn't work to build up new guys particularly at key positions like QB.

I'm really liking the hires so far, but until we sign a damn good QB coach and find an OLine coach who can get our OLine back to playing at an elite level, I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Also, I think drafting A.J. Green makes sense. Obviously with Luck going back to Stanford, unless we bring in a starting quality veteran QB or trade down in the draft, I think Hurney will look for the new staff to give Clausen another look this season.

Even though we've got Gettis and LaFell looking to emerge next season, with a disgruntled and aging Smith, there's no denying that a receiver like Green could come in and make Pickles a superstar, assuming of course, that we stay healthy on the OLine, start giving him a little more protection, and consistently and effectively pound the D with the run (like we all know the Panthers are capable of doing).

Since this is becoming a bit of a draft leaning thread I'm going to stick my thing in here....

I think we lean toward Peterson or maybe Bowers with our first this year.

Johnson looked really good this year, but Brown is undersized and still hasn't shown me much as being an elite kind of DE.

Gamble was benched for walking out and giving up, and is way over paid. We really could use a shut down type of corner prospect. Remember when Gamble could tackle? Neither can I...

Thanks for letting me stick my thing in here.
