Official Panthers Coaching Staff Thread

What exactly does that mean? How much imput did he have in the game plans and play calling?

Anyway, I'll be completely convinced when I see the results on the field. Every new coach we have ever had was highly thought of by some other coach and/or players. Honestly, these recommendations don't mean much to me anymore.

I have no idea what role he had in game plans. He did not playcall. Turner did.

However, he was thought of so highly he was the assistant head coach. He undoubtedly had a major role in the game plan. He didn't directly call plays but what he saw was used to do so.

Like I said, he's more than a TE coach.

I'm not convinced he's the greatest thing since sliced bread but I am pretty excited to see our offense next year.

Is Jeremy Bates a candidate for OQC or QB coach? Seahawks just fired the guy - Carroll brought him from USC to be his OC. Former QB coach for the Broncos (also called plays), Jets, and Bucs.

I don't know much about the guy.

Was wondering the same thing about Jeremy Bates. Would be a nice hire to coach the QB. Worked with Jay Cutler in Denver for his breakout 2008 season. We might be looking elsewhere though.

I am very happy with the coaching hires so far. I think Rivera is going to go a great job, and hopefully he will be able to do what Fox did in his first 2 years here.

I think a lot of the same pieces are in place. I think we can be very good if not great on defense this year, and I think Nick Fairley is the obvious first pick for the Panthers.

I think our D-Line with Fairley, Charles Johnson, Hardy, and others has the potential to be the best D-Line the Panthers have had in years. I also think Rivera will incorporate some 3-4 stuff to utilize Everette Brown and Eric Norwood as well.

Offensively, it is going to take probably another year to completely turn that side of the ball around. I think even as is, Clausen, LaFell, and Gettis showed signs of progession last year and I think the group as is could win 4-6 games just from the added experience factor and with Chud implementing a new scheme to utilize our talent better (not the Fox/Davidson way of trying to fix a square peg in a round hole approach).

I think we are set at RB and O-Line if everyone comes back healthy. Even receiver is not that big of an area of concern for me, although I think we need to add a veteran FA to the mix.

However, it is obvious the Panthers must improve at QB, and unfortunately I am not sure how much better Clausen can get. He had a tough sled his rookie year, and many of the Panthers offensive issues went beyond him. However, the Panthers are going to need a franchise QB to compete year in and year out in the tough NFC South, and I'm not confident Clausen is the guy.

I do agree our best bet for this year is to try to build a dominant defense, which we are not that far away from, and try to make improvements on offense. It does suck Luck didn't come out b/c we still ultimately need a franchise QB and we missed that opportunity.

And really, you need to pick at or near the top of the draft to get one. I can see the Panthers for the next few years still being in the early John Fox era mode of having a great defense and hoping the offense can score enough points and not screw it up.
