Just did an excel spread on all of the coaches. Some very interesting connections there. Wisconsin, Miami (FL), Ark St., William and Mary, Washington Redskins, of course the Bears and Chargers and Eagles.

Heres a nugget you might like Mr Scot, new LB coach Warren Belin was LB coach at Vanderbilt before going to Georgia. During his time a Vandy, his biggest star was Hunter Hillenmeyer who went on to be a star backup and then starter for the Bears when Rivera was DC.

Ron Meeks was a DB coach at Ark St when Ray Brown was a senior.

Ron Meeks was also the DB coach for Miami (FL) while Chud was playing TE there.

Meeks and Matsko both worked for the Rams at the same time.

Matsko, Settle and Murphy all have spent time at Wiscon.

Belin and McDermott also spent one season together at William and Mary.

I'm sure there are a lot more but those were the ones that really stuck out to me.

Strength- Joe Kenn

The Panthers have hired Joe Kenn to be their strength coach, and only need an assistant for him to finalize their coaching staff. Kenn has most recently worked out of the Proehlific Park facility of new Panthers offensive consultant Ricky Proehl (a former college teammate as well), but has an extensive resume at the college level.

Most recently, he was strength coach at Louisville, but has also worked at Arizona State, Utah and Boise State.

Kind of unusual there. We hired Proehl and then hired one of his employees.

Info I have on Kenn so far.

- He went to Wake Forest at the same time as Proehl. He'd have been a teammate of Proehl and Belin.

- He was Steve Smith's strength coach in college.

- Also worked with Terrell Suggs at Arizona State.

- He wrote a book on strength coaching (Amazon.com)

- He's big and scary looking

I think this one has more to do with Proehl than Smith.

From what I'm reading, sounds like a great hire regardless of connection.

Kenn was named the College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in 2002 and has been a finalist for the award four times during his career. He also earned conference recognition in 1998 (Big West Conference) and again in 2000 (Mountain West Conference).

Kenn has coached numerous NFL players including; former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler, Terrell Suggs (Baltimore Ravens, ASU), former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Mike Anderson (Baltimore Ravens, Utah), 2 Time Pro Bowler Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers, Utah), and recent Super Bowl Champion Kimo Von Oelhoffen (New York Jets, Boise State).

Kenn earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health and sports science from Wake Forest in 1988 and his strength and conditioning specialist certification in 1990. He then earned his Master of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction from Boise State in 1993.

As a football player at Wake Forest, Kenn was a two-year letterman, named a NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete award winner as well as Wake Forest's Weightlifter of the Year and the Bill George Award as Linemen of the Year.
