Turner charged with offensive quality control

Posted 18 minutes ago

CHARLOTTE - Scott Turner, the son of San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner, will serve as the Panthers' offensive quality control coach, the team announced Thursday.

Turner spent the past three seasons on the University of Pittsburgh staff under head coach Dave Wannstedt, coaching the wide receivers last season after spending 2008 and '09 as an offensive assistant.

Turner, 28, began his coaching career in 2005 as an administrative graduate assistant at Oregon State after playing quarterback for John Robinson at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera - like Turner - got his first NFL coaching job under Wannstedt, as his defensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears from 1997-98. Rivera spent the last four seasons in San Diego on Norv Turner's staff.

should be a good hire.

Is McGinnis not an option for taking Fisher's place? If not, then I think he would be the best option out there for LB coach.

The job is expected to go to offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

The Titans also employ receivers coach Fred Graves. He was coaching at Utah when a certain receiver we know was playing there.

Word from Gantt is that we tried to get Munchak back before all this happened, but he said no. If he gets the head coach job, it'll be no surprise if all assistants stay put.

Word on the street is that Smitty thinks very highly of his college coach. Don't know much about him but if he had anything to do with Smitty's development then we could use him.

Steve Reed reporting source from TitansInsider that Panthers will hire Graves as new WR coach. How's that for service (if it's true)?
