FRANCHISE QB'S win CHAPIONSHIPS people!

I love when a thread clearly mocking another thread fails. CHAPIONSHIPS?

Okay, kidding aside. Both threads are correct for the best chance at a SB. Just as some teams with amazing defenses have won a SB with an average QB, there will be teams with an elite QB and passing offense win championships with average to above average defense.

If I had to choose one to be average and one to be top flight for what I felt was the best opportunity for a SB title, I'd take the #1 defense and have a trustworthy middle to above average QB.

A championship defense gives their offense great field position, and more scoring opportunities with takeaways. The elite QB can get you down the field and score points, but the average defense will keep the opponent in the game.

Steelers Ravens was a perfect example of this...was there one drive (besides the 30+ yard penalty aided drives) that was more than 40 yards?

That game was all about defense and how bad Flacco is.

can't totally dismiss penalties on drives... who knows what woulda happened on those plays had those penalties not occurred. 70 and 80 yard drives are impressive against the defenses out there.

also, Flacco's receivers just dropped passes all night long it seemed.

The one one Pitt was total BS...he barely touched him and didn't impede anything.

I'm not totally dismissing those drives but other than two drives in the game, the defenses have to be credited with setting up the offenses in great position...I think our O could have put up 20 with those situations

...our O with Clausen or Moore? ;)

but seriously, taking nothing away from what the D's did. Just some good quarterback play by Big Ben too.

Always have, always will! Panther fans I know our defense has been decent for years, but let's not forget that Franchise QB's is where it's at when the playoffs comes around. Give me the '10 Packers over the '02 Buccaneers anyday! Also give me AJ Green or Blaine Gabbert over Nick Fairley anyday.

Sometimes.

Yesterday the Jets defense and the Bears defense won, but yeah, I'd take a franchise QB (Brady, Manning, Manning, Rodgers, Brees) and an average defense (5-15) over a top 5 defense and a gap filler QB any day of the week.

All but one of those franchise QB's are sitting at home now watching the playoffs continue on without them, just sayin.

so much confusion over the definition of a franchise QB.

A franchise QB does not need to be elite.

A franchise QB is a player the team builds around and trusts to lead it to victory. They are not actively seeking a replacement because they believe that player has the good stuff for the foreseeable future. Usually this player is pretty good but how good is often a subject of fan debate (See Sanchez, Mark).
