I'm on the fence.

Somebody respectable pull me to a side.

OK, we either get a DC that has DC experience that's worked with our HC before (McDermott) or take a chance on someone else that's never been DC before (because no other options have been, unless you want Dave Wannstedt).

Ummm, Rivera ran the Tampa 2 zone defense in Chicago too and more then likely that will be what he will run here in Carolina. Yes he attacks and uses more blitz's but it's still a Tampa 2 zone defense.

@_@

he ran alot of the tampa 2 cause that's what lovie wanted, that's also part of the reason they let him go cause he & lovie couldn't come to happy medium on what they wanted from the defense

lol no

rivera only ran it there because that's what lovie already had in place, that's his philosophy. the guy's background other than that is not Tampa 2 at all, as a player or a coach

It'd be a good pickup.

As a DC? Or positional coach?

Why are fans so happy he's gone? Did he truly underperform or was their other underlying reasons such as a lack of talent?

The thought of assembling an all-star coaching staff sounds great, but what about McDermott is scaring people off?

These are my questions.

But if he truly does suck, wouldn't it be better to take a chance on someone?

(I'm not saying he does suck..)

That's like saying we should hire Mangini, with experience, over the Chargers TE coach we're interviewing..

He was 1 or 2 spots outside of the top 10 this year in yards given up and total points allowed. Ron will control the defense, McDermott would be the best assistant DC.

DC I'd expect. His position coaching spot is expected to go to Meeks.

What scared the Eagles out of keeping McDermott was the thought of losing Dick Jauron (more experienced guy).
