There is way too much talk of FA signings and trades on the Huddle

Hi, OP! I'll not talk about FA or anything of that sort because of the CBA! Watch!

Man, than Jon Beason, he's awesome! You guys think he'll get 100 tackles this season? What about Charles Godfrey? I bet he gets two interceptions this season!!!! WOOO! Go Panthers!!!!!

Haha! Now, continue talking about FA, people.

There's plenty to talk about. Rivera is filling out his staff, we have to talk about the #1 overall pick, and what's going on with the CBA. It's the threads talking about these big name players they want to trade for or sign that are wasting bandwidth.

You noticed that this thread turned into a discussion of free agency, I take it?

The defending champs had a bunch of excellent free agent pickups all over their roster. It didn't help them in the playoffs this year, but there's a Lombardi trophy in New Orleans because they went out and signed some good players.

Like 9 or 10!! YEAH YOUR SO RIGHT RICHARDZ IS TEH CHEAP!!

No. New Orleans picked up a few key players in Free Agency and resigned their own good players. They also were fortunate enough to have a Franchise QB come available in FA. If a Brees comes available this offseason, I can assure you, we'll sign him.

Maybe it's that your not understanding that this team itself, is not too far away from being legitimate. A Franchise QB could solve most every problem..

Oh, I know what there is to talk about. Most fans don't want to talk about an assistant coach from a Playoff team that we may or may not sign, people don't want to talk too much about guys on the radar we know nothing about (Hi, Jay Gruden!), we talk the #1 pick to DEATH, and most of us have no clue about the CBA because not even the players/NFL know about the CBA.

So we may as well talk about what we know, and that's players. Brings much more smiles to our faces than, "Who should our strength and conditioning coach be? I hear the guy from the Lions is interested!!!".

This first bolded part made me laugh. You're damn right they signed a "few key players in Free Agency". They signed a franchise quarterback in Brees and a Pro Bowl/All-Pro/Defensive Player of the Year candidate in Sharper. Let's not play pattycake here. If the Saints had followed the Jerry Richardson method, they would not have won a Super Bowl last season.

And if 2-14 is not that far away from being legitimate....well, I don't even know how to finish that sentence.

Why is discussing FAs any differant than other discussions regarding the panthers?JR also said we will be a championship caliber team again.Does that mean we will?Maybe the the thread shoud read JR and Hurney are idiots because they refuse to add quality free agents.

Those people are setting expectations way too high then. They're going to get fixated on these big name free agents and are going to be disappointed with the Panthers yet again when they don't even pick up the phone to even try and sign these guys. But I guess when you have such a beaten-down fan base, dreaming of being fans of a good team again can't hurt.

Keyshawn was another 2006 signing.

And what do you mean we didn't have a need at these other positions? Since that 2006 offseason that followed the 2005 playoff run, we've made the playoffs 1 time in 5 seasons.

Look at that. First 4 years under Fox we signed plenty of free agents and there was a great deal of excitement around the team for those 4 years. Last 5 years under Fox we signed Tyler Brayton and 50-year-old Muhsin Muhammad and ended up making the playoffs a grand total of 1 time with 0 playoff wins.

Gee, I wonder if there's something to this free agency thing after all?

Beside last season name one position that needed upgraded since 2006? I will give you WR.

i've only really heard Richardson and Jones trying to delay the CBA. they're the ones pushing for the lock out. most people want it done immediately.

I've read several reports were veterans are telling the younger guys to save their money, because the veterans actually believe they will have leverage through the lock out......The fact is the owners TV contracts are locked and several owners such as Richardson has PSL's sold, so they may suffer due to concession and team merchandise sales, but they will not suffer nearly as much as the players.

Another note is that the players of today are not the same as the players pre-90s. Money was not nearly the motivating factor that it has become since the last CBA agreement. Meaning the players pre-90s could walk away from the game and find other work easily, while todays players have spent their entire lives devoted to becoming an NFL player and most of them have very little to fall back on if a lock out happens. The young players who haven't made their money yet will break the lockout and leave the vets to stand alone, meaning the NFL will loss a great deal of talent, but the owners will "win" if you want to call it that, in the end. The greatest losers will be the fans. The vets have their money already, the young players simply want a chance and the owners will get the CBA they desire in the end.

Defensive tackle, defensive end, guard, tight end, kick/punt returner, safety, receiver, quarterback.

Really? De taken care of through the draft. Guard? We did sign through Fa but also through the draft. Tight end? really? K/PR tried to fix through draft.

Most of those you fix through the draft. Oline was great until this season. Safety wasnt that bad.
