There is way too much talk of FA signings and trades on the Huddle

We'll sign Free Agents.

We'll sign good ones.

We aren't the only team in the league that can't sign FA's until after the CBA is in place.

Your falling for the national media's "Panthers R TeH CHeepz!" smear campaign.

Cover everything?

I've never said Richardson is a cheap owner. I think he's just a paranoid old man that's scared to death of the CBA and it's clouded his judgment over the past couple of years.

Still though, when was the last time we signed a "good" free agent? Na'il Diggs? Keyshawn? We haven't signed good free agents since 2006. Why should we expect that to change now?

We haven't signed a good veteran quarterback since Rodney Peete. CBA or no CBA, I don't see that changing. People that think Orton/VY/McNabb are going to be in Panthers uniforms next season are smoking crack. It'll be another Josh McCown-type quarterback.

We've also never needed a QB like we need one now.

Richardson will open the pocketbook like he always does.

The only ones who think he won't are the delusional media and the fans who listen to them without surveying the situation themselves.

"Good" Free Agents =/= Big name Free Agents.

Name them. Name these good free agents we've signed since the 2006 offseason. There isn't a single good player on the roster right now that arrived here via free agency unless you want to count John Kasay.

Keyshawn and Moose. But really have we need too? Besides last offseason we didnt need to sign any as most of the areas was covered. Last year we need a QB and DT which yes the panthers went on the cheap end. But before that we didnt need too.

Oh yeah and I'm glad you mentioned trading down Squirrel. Everybody realizes it takes two to trade down right? If you want to trade down, you're going to have to find a trade partner willing to give up a TON just to draft a guy like Fairley at #1 who's not even in the same league as Suh was last season who went #2. It's going to be extremely difficult to trade down. This is a very weak draft at #1 now without Luck.

It doesn't need to be a TON of compensation. We have the pick and we will determine how much picks somebody needs to give.

Keyshawn was another 2006 signing.

And what do you mean we didn't have a need at these other positions? Since that 2006 offseason that followed the 2005 playoff run, we've made the playoffs 1 time in 5 seasons.

Look at that. First 4 years under Fox we signed plenty of free agents and there was a great deal of excitement around the team for those 4 years. Last 5 years under Fox we signed Tyler Brayton and 50-year-old Muhsin Muhammad and ended up making the playoffs a grand total of 1 time with 0 playoff wins.

Gee, I wonder if there's something to this free agency thing after all?

Why is this? Is there a set price for #1 overall?

At this point I'll take the last pick second and first round for the #1 overall. This draft is crap but I don't see why we couldn't get something for the pick even if it may not be what it would have say last year.

Those aren't the only 2.

Additionally, let's take a look back and see which successful teams signs oodles of big-name Free Agents year after year.

Bear in mind, I said successful.

Let's also take a look at the good players on our own roster we've committed to resigning..

Maybe you see what I'm getting at here..

Marty Hurney has a history of being extremely demanding and extremely stubborn when it comes to trading away something. We could have had a 2nd-rounder for Kris Jenkins, but held out for a 1st. We then had to trade him for a 3rd and a 5th I believe. And then look at Peppers. We held out for 2 1st-rounders and then ended up letting him walk for absolutely nothing. He's going to demand a ton for that #1 overall pick.

Hi, OP! I'll not talk about FA or anything of that sort because of the CBA! Watch!

Man, than Jon Beason, he's awesome! You guys think he'll get 100 tackles this season? What about Charles Godfrey? I bet he gets two interceptions this season!!!! WOOO! Go Panthers!!!!!

Haha! Now, continue talking about FA, people.

The defending champs had a bunch of excellent free agent pickups all over their roster. It didn't help them in the playoffs this year, but there's a Lombardi trophy in New Orleans because they went out and signed some good players.

Well Beason is clear until next year so that is good. No one else can sign FAs until the CBA is here either so I don't see why we wouldn't sign anyone. We better sign someone after the CBA with all the money JR saved that was his whole point was it not? To spend money we saved last year?
