I have seen some compare Clausen to Aikman...

Moore looked terrible, BSP had 34 yards passing in 3 quarters...Clausen refusing to be careful?? That's all he did was play careful! That's most people's argument. Next will you say the Panthers need to pick a running back?

Clausen refused to try and win a game. Dude would throw it out of bounds on 3rd down no matter how much we were down.

a lot of people seem to think we're gonna bring in someone so great we can easily afford to sit Clausen for 3 years and then see what's happening with him, and I just don't see it.

I just don't see us making a trade for one of the big two names talked about here. I fully expect Clausen to have a shot of winning his starting spot in training camp over someone like Volek or another FA. The thing is, if Clausen struggles again we'll be able to go with Volek this time around.

We'll have a new OC and a new QB Coach so quite a bit could be different.

not someone so great...Carolina could bring in a Matt Moore caliber QB and automatically would have someone better than Clausen to start.

at this point, Clausen has put himself on the path to hopefully develop into a backup. He doesn't have the skill set or physical tools that just sitting him is going to make him better. He is working in too big of a hole at this level. I think that will become clearly when the next season gets closer.

In some ways, Aikman was worse than Clausen his first year. Aikman actually had a QB rating of 4 in one game. Thats 4, not 40.

I remember that season well, as I was a Redskins fan and loved seeing the cowboys struggle. And yet, the galling thing was that their one win came against the Skins. They only won because Aikman didn't start that game.

9 touchdowns!!!! Wow I wish Clausen had that type of rookie season. I would be alot more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If Aikman sucked ass so bad what does it say about Clausen that he was even worse. Aikman had a game where he threw for 379 yards; Clausen couldn't even break the 200 threshold.

But hey maybe Clausen is the next Aikman who knows. Need to have a back up plan just in case.

Perspective.

9 TDs? Sure, but he had 4 in one game. Maybe that was his one start more than the Jimmay? That would make it 5-3 in Aikman's favor. That's a lot closer, pathetic for both. If you also consider that Aikman got the starter reps all through camp and preseason whil the Jimmay didn't get them until week 3, it probably was fairly even. both absolutely sucked butt.

I haven't seen anything to make me think that Clausen's name will ever mentioned in Canton unless as a punchline, but I also believe it's far to early to toss him on the scrap heap. We have enough other issues to keep us from winning a superbowl in the next year so, let him keep a roster spot and see how he grows. He might be an Aikman, or he might be a Carr, or he could be a Couch.

Troy also managed to throw for 379 yards in game. 261 in another. 241 in another. Troy had moments. Troy got WRs into the endzone. In the garbage he gave Dallas a reason to believe there was something to build on.....on top of all that he had a lot of physical traits like being 6'4 and a skill set that would lead people to believe he could play at the NFL level.

There is not Troy/Clausen comparison. Just b/c someone sucked doesn't mean Clausen is comparable. Troy wasn't tiny, with a bad slow release, etc. Troy just had a bad and rough year as rookie. Troy shouwed glimpses of being a productive NFL QB.

Clausen showed nothing. Clausen doesn't have the physical tools or intangibles teams look for....and was flat out bad. I still don't get the blind hope in the kid.

In Aikman's second game he threw for 241 yards, something Clausen couldn't do in his 10th start. Stats can be twisted to make Aikman appear "closer" to how bad Clausen played or they can be used to show how different they were. Either way, comparing them is pretty pointless.
