I have seen some compare Clausen to Aikman...

As for as how they were as rookies. One poster said there was no comparrison as Aikman showed something that led the team to believe he was going to be a great one.

Bull poo.

Lets look at history shall we? Being in Tulsa I have always been force fed the Cowboys TV coverage and media wise (Plus Troy is from Oklahoma) so I saw this unfold first hand. First off Jimmy Johnson brought in Steve Walsh from Miami where he coached to try and win the job. For most of camp and the first few games of the 89' season, it was walsh who looked much better. Johnson was made to start Aikman about 6 games in to the 89' season. It wasn't until 1990 that walsh was ousted from the Cowboys roster (Aikmans rookie season was 89). Now rumor has it Johnson still wanted Walsh on the roster, Jimmuh Jones didn't and that's how that went down.

Now as for as on the field. Aikman sucked. He flat out sucked ass and MANY were saying he was a bust. He was 0-11 as a starter and was 155 of 293 passing for 1,749 yards, 9 TDs, 18 INTs.

More history, the drafted E. Smith in 90 and still missed the playoffs under Aikman's leadership. In 1991 he led them to a 6-5 record and got hurt against Washingon I believe.

Although he made the probowl in 91, it wasn't until 1992 his 4th year in the league did he become the QB that would be a HOF and 3x superbowl winning QB. BTW during that time, JJ and JJ Built the TEAM around him that would win 3 superbowls as well.

So how about we listen to our new HC and let him make the decision to develop Clausen or not and make the decision on if this kid has what it takes to become an NFL 'Franchise' QB.

Is it typical for a QB to flat out suck and turn it into a goof career? No it's extremely rare. All you did was find a counter example. Really you are disproving your own point.

Are there any other QBs that sucked this bad and turned it around? If not then we have one example out of thousands.

Also did Aikman have the mechanical issues that Clausen has?

What mechanical issues? Everyone loved his throwing motion coming out of College so if there is anything wrong with him the PANTHERS coaching staff did it!

Like it, don't like it Rivera is going to take some time to see if this kid can develop. With Moore here I do not see them drafting another young QB, that would be stupid. They are going to bring in a Vet to run the show for a couple years is the way I see it.

During Aikman's horrible rookie season he had a game where he threw for something like 300+ yards setting a rookie record...

Yes he did. Nearly 25% of his entire years passing yardage came against the cardinals in one game. Which means the other 10 games he flat out sucked. 2 of his 9 TD's that season came in that game as well.

The one similarity Aikman and Clausen have is that they rarely force a ball into double coverage. When Irvin was being double covered during his career, Aikman would throw it to someone else. Clausen has that quality in his game. He even said that at the beginning of the season and people on this board said he was better than Delhomme.

Lets not get alway from jimmy or tony and if matt comes back. I think he will be the starter and with the new OC and related staff. the offense will make improvements this next season if there is one. so just becasue all of our QB suck this yr doesn't mean that they are a bust. and u got to look at this past yr we were injury prone. so get everyone healthy and change the way they condition in the offseason. and teach them how to miniunize injury. thats where the change in offseason work outs come in and also ota and training camp. I say the future of the panthers is a postive outlook. I see a superbowl championschip in our future but it will be slow to get people on the same page. I say three yrs from now we will be back to contending for divsion and playoffs

Warner?

Delhomme?

Beurlein?

Gannon?

Kitna?

to a lesser extent, Plummer?

Did you watch Peyton's rookie season?

Lets go back in time to Earl Morrall and Dave Krieg.

I hated seeing Clausen week in and week out. But, he's a rookie. He isn't the finished product.

I've already looked into Peyton's rookie season and it was miles and miles better than Clausen's in almost every way.

Warner's first season was 1999 (he threw 11 passes in 1998) and he threw 41 TDS

I'm guessing none of those guys had that bad of a rookie year but I don't care to go digging into stats right now

There are 2 arguments here.

1) Do we bring Clausen back? Absolutely, he is under contract and there isn't much to lose. Maybe we end up with two many QBs and he gets cut buts it doubtful.

2) is he an NFL QB? You can delude yourself into thinking Fox ruined him or that he is just like Peyton manning. I would put the odds at around 10% that he ends up with any sort of decent career.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
