HOLY CRAP! We drafted who???

I hated the Stewart pick because I felt like it was a great draft for runningbacks and we had a guy in Williams. I thought Stewart was a good player, but it was going to make one of our first round runningbacks a bust. It seems to have worked out pretty well. I also hated the Dan Connor pick that year. I knew he was a great player and maybe the BPA, but we did have linebackers. Whoever said they wanted Oher instead of Stewart, wasn't that a different draft? Can't really remember.

I can't think of to many more I was shocked by. The way draft profiles are written, it sounds like every guy taken can develop into a Hall of Famer, so you can talk yourself into just about anybody.

How could you be pissed at drafting Beason because Morgan was at MLB??

He had missed like half the games of his career with injuries.

I've never hated a pick btw though I've hated some trading of picks.

Easy to see now, but Morgan never had injuries in college. I thought it was bad luck more than anything, because the injuries were not in the major joints that end careers (Knee, shoulder). At the time, he had a concussion or two and broke his leg. Maybe a shoulder surgery, I do not recall. Of course, Beason projected to OLB as well, and I didn't see a need.

So I guess I'm the only one man enough to admit saying "who the f**k is Steve Smith??"

You assholes watch a lot of Utah football huh? Kiss my ass. :D

Good one!! I was confused why we would draft a punt returner in the third round--from UTAH??? Then I remember he fumbled 3 times and cost us a game vs. Green Bay. I wanted us to cut him!! Double stoopid.

Giving our second pick for Edwards has to be the pinnicle of stupidity to me and trading our first pick for Everette Brown was right up there as was the Clausen pick.

Yeah, Jarhead, that is when Fox and Hurney became desperate. "Live for the moment", "use the credit card" mentality. If you make a controversial trade like that, you don't draft a controversial, risky player. I lost my faith in Hurney with that one trade. He boasts of his first rounders still being on the team, and for 2 years, he trades them.

Funny thing is, I was hoping we would draft Hardy in the fourth round.

I was pissed when we took an injured running back from Oregon when we needed an offensive tackle. Then we traded with Philly to take Otah, a RT. I suppose the fact that a RB did not seem to be a need and RT should not be a first round pick bothered me, but the injury histories did as well.

And to this day, I still think Hurney was stupid (so this sorta has nothing to do with the topic). Stewart has not practiced in 2-3 years and gets pain killing shots to play. I thought you talked to the doctor, Marty? Otah has several knee injuries at Pitt. He has played in about half of the games he has played here. A right tackle with the 19th overall pick? And you gave a first and a second? Then the Brown trade...then the Armanti trade....It is when he tries to get cute we get burned.

And everybody give him credit for the Hardy and Gettis picks. Those came from the scouting department. He was just smart enough to listen. I will say that Marty likes the players who seem to have fallen out of favor with the NFL teams and slide. Clausen, Lafell a little, Norwood a bit, Hardy was once thought to be a first rounder, Pike, predicted to be a third or fourth rounder.

I don't know why so many people bag on the Jimmy pick.. especially since that entire off season most of the board was crying for us to draft a QB high in the draft.

Personally I loved the Clausen pick, and I think it's still yet to be seen what Clausen can do. If he had been in a better situation than having to play with 40 rookies on offense and a make shift line, think he would have done better. So i'm not ready to call Jimmy a bust yet.

Honestly I don't have any pick I was shocked with because I never researched the draft until recently... Even now I don't care to research any farther than the 3rd round.... So.

2005 second round. Carolina takes RB Eric Shelton.

Kris Jenkins gets hurt and the starting DTs that season were Brentson Buckner and Jordan Carstens.

The starting DBs were Gamble and Lucas at CB, Marlon McCree and Mike Minter at safety.

Starting WRs were Smith, Colbert and Carter.

Depth killed the Panthers that season although it didn't show until late in the season when the Panthers lost 2 of their last 4 games and limped into the playoffs.

The players left on the board in 2005 I was hoping for? Jonathon Babineaux (DT-Falcons), Bryant McFadden (DB-Pittsburgh) and Vincent Jackson (WR-San Diego). All of these guys were rated higher than Shelton and all of them went just a few picks after Shelton.

I have to admit being mildly upset about Beason, not that he wasn't a good player, but not a need since Morgan was going to finally stay healthy. As far as first round picks, that is about the only one. I'm usally dead on in the first round or at least predict who the team will take even if isn't my choice.

The second round has had it share of head scracthers. It seems that is the Panther's albatross round. We've had a few good ones, but with players in the top 60 overall, you would think the team would have had more success. Taking Brown last year really pissed me off on so many levels. I like Brown, but he was too rich for we gave up for him.

This year, Edwards took the cake...I don't care who you are. Even Marty Hurney himself can not rationalize taking a D-II, undersized, spread offense QB and project him to a top-tiered WR in the NFL A-N-D by giving up a second round pick.

The biggest "we darfted who" for me has been the past two seasons by getting players, while great in college, projecting marginal in the League and gving the far too much for them. I think they are called reaches...
