Meeks in; Skipper out

Stephen Davis is an interesting name because he has definitely stayed around the Panthers organization since he retired. I would imagine that they would put him in a lesser role than RB coach if he's hired full-time at least at first. Maybe some kind of offensive quality control position.

Anyway, glad that SMIII is sticking around, but I knew that was going to happen anyway. Don't really care about Meeks, but I'm disappointed that Skipper won't be around next year. It does make some sense not to want to keep him since he was assistant head coach. If the team starts struggling under Rivera, you don't want a situation where players start complaining to Skipper about things.

I would love to see Meeks as the secondary coach, that seems to be where he thrives. Seems to always have good pass defense, not so good against the run.

Agreed. Like some guys are not good at HC but good at coordinators, same for meeks and DC/ Vs Secondary. Put guys where they are their best.

I like the idea of Meeks coaching the secondary, when I first saw the article in the paper I was concerned he would be the DC and it seemed to be an odd fit with the kind of defense Rivera says he wants to run.

As far as Skipper, I'm sure he was a good coach and I expect these guys to be loyal to him, but it's not like he's the only good running backs coach in the world.

I think it's clear Ron Rivera is the HC and the D-Coordinator...whoever he hires with the tag of "Defensive Coordinator" is merely a yes-man to Rivera. If this is good or bad remains to be scene. Reason? Besides his comments during the press conference, he hired a position coach before hiring the coordinator. I don't really care, he's a top defensive coach in the NFL.

What he really needs is an offensive coordinator with the leadership to be "head coach" of the offense.

Davis may or may not make a good running back coach but coaching(teaching)and

playing are to different skill sets.

Good communicator, motivator, knowledge of position, organizational skills etc these

have nothing to do with being a great running back except for knowledge of position
