Time to face the facts, guys

Everyone does realize that the run game started working because Davidson finally realized that he could run it outside by about the first Atlanta game?

Defenses never did change the way that they played against us, stack the line run blitz to the QB. They just allowed the occasional outside run because it wasn't a big enough threat, which allowed for some big runs but no real improvement in our overall offense.

They still stacked the line taking away the inside run and set thier DE's loose to the QB. They played tight coverage off of the line because 1) our passing attack did not include a route that made a cut before 10 yds and 2) our inexperienced WR could not shake tight coverage early.

So yes, our run game did improve as the season wore on but it still did not help the passing game because there was still NO bite on play-action since there was nothing in the middle and we never ran short fast routes. Hell, even our fuging check-downs to tight-ends and RB's were long ass circle routes and delayed routes. The fuging offense sucked ass last year.

Face the fact guys - we're going to be in last place in NFS South again. There's no way around it with everyone else enjoying their own frachise QB. We don't have one. Let's build up the D and O line and draft OUR QB next year. We have one more year of misery (at least) and I doubt there's any way around it.

I don't think we'll have worst record in the league so I doubt we get Luck next year but from what I'm hearing the QB draft class will be better next year.

Plus don't forget - we've all read that Panthers brass still have high hopes for Clausen. Hell I was scared we wouldn't draft Luck so I seriously doubt we draft a QB this year.

Fairley is our guy - almost guarantee.

Rivera has already said he will need time to evaluate the QB position. I don't see how you can evaluate your current QB staff on tape alone.

I believe Clausens problems were more piss poor game planning then talent. I would like to see Clausen and Pike get a good look at before we go and bring in another QB. If anyone I would bring in the Aged John Kitna. He would be servicable until we can get a solid QB if Clausen and Pike fail.

My thoughts are we pass on a QB and go Free Agent Market for a Vet to back up Clausen.

We will pass on Green (as much as I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Panther Uniform)

and we will Draft Fairley.

Would love to see us trade down but there really isn't a guy a team would trade up for. Hopefully the combine will make a few shine and the we might get a chance to trade down.

I think the Panthers are being shopped anyway. I deal with BofA and have for several years. I got some news from long standing employees that their budgets are frozen and they believe the franchise is being shopped.

Just their feeling as BofA facility employees. Possible paranoia. Lot's of that going around these days for sure. It makes more sense that the CBA issue has caused this but these fellas did not think so.

It shocked me at first but at the same time it fits with the theme of late.

the Panthers aren't just one of the most successful NFL teams they are one of the most successful professional teams. I would find it hard to believe the Panthers will be moving any time soon.

I don't believe it... sorry, I just don't. The team is too successful to move.

I understand this and hope it to be true to the fullest. I have known these people for quite some time and today I was convinced enough to be concerned at least a little.

I will be back in Charlotte next week again and be able to gauge it better.

well, I could see Jerry making people nervous. I just think him and his partners have it too good to even be thinking about it. You just don't see franchises that have it this good (from a $ standpoint) selling teams having them relocated.

not questioning your sources though.....I am sure they are telling you an accurate vibe. People all over the country feel their jobs are in jeopardy (even at very successful places). Keep us updated as you never know.

is it possible their feelings had to do with selling the stadium or something?

The Panthers won't be moving. Richardson could sell them if he wanted but they aren't going anywhere. The owners and the league have to agree with any sale and move and I doubt they would do it. Then there is the whole idea of 70,000 PSL owners and a huge class action lawsuit. Teams like Jacksonville and Buffalo could be moved to LA and Toronto for example, but the Panthers are going no where. The freeze is likely due to Richardson's feeling there will be a lockout and wanting to conserve money. Anything else is like water cooler paranoia.

I do not think there will be a move, my contacts don't think so either for the very reasons some of you have mentioned.

But a sale or an ownership realignment of some sort makes people nervous and adds an additional set of elements when discussing a #1 pick, the future, investment, etc.

That is why I put this in this thread.

All our guessing is likely in vain anyway but adding an ownership shakeup skews everything beyond hypothesis IMO.
