Time to face the facts, guys

Mr. Scot

There are several guys who are franchise guys just not any as polished as Luck. As the combine and individual workouts approach it will be clearer who is standing out. Since everyone is compared to Luck they look worse but guys like Locker for example who were considered top 10 last year, didn't get worse. And guys like Newton have a high potential. If he works his butt off between now and the combine and shows good footwork and demonstrates his knowledge in the interviews, he could definitely shoot up the boards.

It does depend on how high the organization is on Clausen and what the OC thinks his potential is at this point. I can promise you that Rivera wants a franchise guy who he can build around. With a 4 year contract, he won't wait for a year or two to fix the offense. He can't afford to.

At this point I'd rather us just stack the defense. Rivera is a defensive guy so why not stick to what you're good at? Even if we did draft a franchise QB our offense is still going to be mediocre at best. This D is a few pieces away from being elite. Make it so.

We saw what happened last year when we had a good defense and no offense..

The offense in itself, has lots of talent. Good OL. Good RBs. Good WRs. But we need someone at least adequate to throw the football. Throw everything you can at the offense to make it competitive, and let Rivera work his magic with an already good D...

Mr. Scot, my man, you wouldn't be hinting that Clausen will be our franchise QB in 2012, are you...in your old Scottie type of way? Or, perhaps you're saying that Clausen sucks...I'm just messin' with you:D.

I don't believe he's a franchise QB. He may be a good West Coast Qb at some point, but not a franchise QB.

Mr Scot who would you pick #1?

Right now, if we take the pick, Fairley. I have misgivings there too, but I think that's the guy.

My favorite choice would be to trade down, but I don't know how realistically possible that is :(

Ehh. I would say the defense is good, but has plenty to improve on. Plus in a new scheme who is to say we have the right guys to run it? It's a 4-3, but a different brand than last years. Just draft BPA, regardless of which side of the ball and let the chips fall where they may. In the end, we will be more talented for it.

Wasn't Clausen the best player available when we picked him?

If relying on Volek is the 1a option, screw it and stick with Clausen. We'll win 5 games and be in a good place next year.

i wouldnt mind Volek as a backup, he could help Clausen develop, but honestly, if we draft a QB this year, i think that will be a huge mistake, i say get a vet. to help and see if Clausen can win, give him one more year and if he sucks, then next year move on, moving on now would be a mistake, Gabbert is the best ranked QB and i dont think he's that good either.

I would go with Moore Clausen and Pike then. Dont need a VET FA, we have Moore, who has already stated that he wants to stay here. QB Coach and OC are going to be very important hires. Lets see what they come up with.

We have already tried that......and it was a disaster.

Yeah but look at the situation they were thrust into...bad OC, inexperienced WR's, it amazes me how alot of posts around here refuse to look at the offense as a WHOLE UNIT, and soley focus on the QB. It speaks volumes about the general lack of understanding in many of the posts I've read on this forum.

yah uhm, I had to burst your bubble, but the running game materialized at the end of the year and did quite well through a 5 or so game stretch. the idea the entire offense was terrible is not accurate. It was not by any means great but we saw little improvement at QB despite o-line & rb improvements.
