No quarterbacks in the draft

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Worst QB play in the league means we draft a QB. Sorry Mr. Scot. You may not like the stable of Ponies, but our horses aren't good enough for the race.

Draft isn't the only option for acquiring a QB.

Going into the season with two second year guys and a rookie as the only options at QB is a night mare scenario. There was one guy, and only one, that I'd have been willing to take that risk with, and he's not coming out.

We need a vet, not more youth. And honestly, that's likely true at receiver too.

So Andrew Luck, the annointed one didn't declare. I would have been happy with Luck too, but all other options are off? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

The FA market is filled with failure.

McNabb? People want McNabb? Seriously? That guy could never put it together in Phillie surrounded by some of the best receivers of his time and a future HoF RB who was an awesome backfield receiver. He was a bust in D.C. He'd come here and do the same thing.

Vince Young? Again, more failure. Vince's emotional issues are borderline clinical.

Who else is there? Kolb? He's a career backup who wants to start. We already have that in Moore.

Give me some good options for QB and I might be able to see your point. Right now, there aren't any as far as I'm concerned.

Luck was the only QB that interested me this year long before his decision came out. I posted a thread way back saying 'no QBs if Luck doesn't declare' and my feelings haven't changed.

Billy Volek and Kyle Orton are the only veteran options that interest me. Volek makes the most sense because he's easier to get and knows Rivera.

We're not finding a franchise QB this year. The only thing we can do is find the best stopgap.

And the QB class is also filled with fail.

2 dual threat QBs. One who appears to have never been asked to read a beyond hist 1st/2nd read. Another who has been coached to pass first but isn't very good at it.

1 prototype with growing character concerns

1 Moderate Qb who has played almost exclusively out of the shotgun

Sure Newton has the highest potential out them all, but there are real questions about him at several areas. Sloppy footwork, poor pocket presence and questionable accuracy. Not to mention almost all teams sold out to stop him running.

How is anyone in the draft an upgrade?

Next season, Luck, Barkley, and Landry Jones should be available. It will be one of the best QB classes since Manning/Rivers/Roethlisberger. We should not draft a QB this season.. let Clausen suck it up next season, and take one of these 3 mentioned above.

See... this is the problem, and again more establishment mentality...

The Free Agency market is PROVEN NFL failure. The College draft is SPECULATIVE failure by SOME people, with at least one QB who had championship success.

Saying the current QB draft prospects are a shoe-in NFL fail is fail.

So you'd rather put a "stopgap" QB in place, who would be performing above their average win level if they lead us to an 8-8 record, which would drop us down on next years draft, than take a slight chance on a QB who just won the BCS in only a year, racked up the Heisman, and has college stats that make many NFL QBs look stupid?

Yeah... not on board with that at all.

Billy Volek... Roflmao...

I am aware of that, trust me I am. Unfortunately this year every single QB has serious question marks by them, which sucks because it was our chance to draft whatever player we wanted.

However, because we pick #1, we just have to pick the best player in the draft if the QBs aren't 'build your franchise round them' quality. None of them are and only Newton looks like he could become that (in my mind that's unlikely).

I wouldn't be upset if Newton or Gabbert was picked, however I would be frustrated and feel that the franchise is just trying to find an identity when there is no obvious one to get. If we go QB first we aren't getting THE QB, we are getting just another QB.

There is a very good chance there will be a lockout this year meaning no free agency before the draft. So who wants to gamble that Volek or some other free agent comes here when the FA period resumes after the lockout ends. If that is August do we bring in a veteran who hasn't been here at all and put him as the starter or go with Clausen in a new system hoping he is better.

Or do we draft a guy- ask him to sign Testeverde as his private coach to work with him during the offseason to work on what he needs to do until the season starts.

For a one year timeframe, I'll take a guy I know is a stopgap over a guy I hope and pray is a franchise QB (despite indications to the contrary) ten times out of ten.
