No quarterbacks in the draft

It depends how good you think McNabb is. I loved him in Philly and thought he was a top 5 QB. Out of that system, he doesn't cut it. He's old and when he talks he doesn't sound like he wants to mentor anyone. Can you imagine the poo storm if he actually got benched for Clausen?

Currently his talents aren't worth his cost and potential headache. Plus I doubt he comes to a 2-14 team at the end of his career.

Fair enough, at the end of the day I think McNabb still has allot left in the tank... I don't think one bad year playing QB for one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL should negate 11 great years of QB play. I thought McNabb was a bad fit system-wise for the Skins from day 1, he needs to be on a team that runs the WCO to get the most out of his talent and experience.

I don't know what his cost would be or if he would even be willing to come here, but I think it's worth investigating at the very least. I was sitting here thinking we could hire Childress as the OC and then bring McNabb in... but I doubt Childress would consent to the kind of oversight Rivera intends to impose on the OC so that probably wouldn't happen... but it's an interesting thought and since Clausen seems to be best suited to the WCO there could be some carry-over value to having Childress on board in terms of Clausen's development.

He just rubs me the wrong way now. He sounds like a bitter old man in interviews after getting traded away so Kolb could start. I can't imagine what he would do if Clausen started over him.

All this comes down to the assumption as well that he will be released AND that he wouldn't mind playing for a rebuilding team. Teams like SF, Tenn, Minn, etc will also be looking for QBs and based on their division and surrounding talent, could be more attractive to a guy on his last leg.

I'd also add there's no one I want to see us trade for, either (no one we could realistically get, anyway, unless Denver comes way down on Kyle Orton's asking price).

Right now my vote is for Billy Volek. He's likely the best stopgap available.

Let's say the Skins would take a 5th round pick for McNabb... would you bite?

I can't go for McNabb either, honestly.

Volek and Orton are about the only guys I can really support, and of those two Volek should be easier to get.

who would actually play QB? I'm assuming Volek?

if so, Volek would be easier to get, but Orton could actually carry this offense.. I don't see how we don't talk to the Bronco's and see what we can do..

would Fox really try to stop us from getting him if it simply comes down to him having an issue with Richardson?

I don't think Fox will want to let him go to anyone considering the situation. He's going to want as much experience as he can get behind center and there aren't a lot of options out there.

Maybe if we give them a 3rd and Jimmy he'll jump at it:D

I really don't want McNabb, I think all he does for us is give us a couple extra wins next season but we still miss the playoffs. Where does that put us?

Nowhere closer to getting where we want to be and preventing us from picking up a franchise QB in next year's draft. Play the young guys, Clausen and Pike. Even pick up Kolb if you want to...but we should only be trying out QBs who are young and haven't already hit their peak.

Not this year anyway. Having thought it over, I just can't get behind it.

I've previously been willing to accept the notion of a guy in the later rounds (no one interests me in the first or second, for sure) but for now, even that is off the table for me.

Why?

Youth.

We've already got two young quarterbacks in the mix from last year's draft. What's the real point of throwing yet another youngster in if he's not a franchise caliber guy (and with Luck staying in school, none of those are available) :nonod:

I'd much rather pick up a vet like Billy Volek, re-sign Matt Moore and give him a shot in camp, and go from there.

If it doesn't work out, maybe you can engineer a shot at another franchise quality QB in the draft or free agency. But for this year, there was only one franchise QB in the draft, and he's not coming. The free agent class may not be great, but at least it offers a little balance in the age department.

Sorry fans of Newton, Gabbert, Locker, Mallett, Taylor and anyone else. I just can't get behind it.

Worst QB play in the league means we draft a QB. Sorry Mr. Scot. You may not like the stable of Ponies, but our horses aren't good enough for the race.
