Pat Yasinskas on Cam Newton: Go get him.

NO! i see Bulger teaching Clausen which could make him a better QB, i rather gamble on Clausen with a proper coaching staff than gamble on Newton who SHOULD sit on the bench like his former teammate The Golden Calf of Bristol did.

Ok, I can't talk about this anymore with you, because you're obviously thinking Clausen is serviceable.

He's been David Carr'ed man. He's done. Won't amount to anything more than a backup.

Keeping Clausen as starter will ensure our future as the worst NFC South team.

yes he made some good throws, BUT he missed some wide open throws, add to it you said Oregon game planned for him, that will happen each and every week in the NFL, teams will gameplan and figure out his weaknesses and dare him to beat them with his weaknesses. as for the playing hurt, he will have to do that more and more if he runs 14 or more times and remember the NFL hits will be much harder. Newton has potential i am not denying that, but i think it's best for him to sit on the bench and learn and unless we get McNabb, i dont see that happening because it's likely (if they did draft him) he would start on day one.

I know of this player. Name's Manning. Peyton Manning. He had rough game the other night. Lost to a Wild Card team. Only threw one TD. He had a couple bad throws too. It looks like they game planned for him.

I guess if he became available we shouldn't pick him up off Free Agency.

See what happens when you try and nitpick someone?

And you want McNabb too? Yeah... okay... we're coming from two separate perceptions of reality here.

It's dumb that so many people are judging Cam from one game. All I ever read on here lately is how he looked so terrible in NC game. What about the rest of the season? I'm not saying we should definitely take him #1, but it is an option. It is something to think about. To just completely write off a guy who has an enormous amount of talent as Cam does would be dumb.

The best defense in college? You must be off your rocker big time.

Based on strength of schedule they absolutely were.

He made more bad throws than good throws and he didn't have good footwork one time that whole game. That's pretty consistent but I guess keep making them.

Again, not getting into the circular debate with you. I could watch a play, see him plant and throw a completion, and say he had good footwork, then you'd come right back and say "No he didn't, he leaned a little forward with his right knee that time".

man there are so many morons on this board

cam newton is not accurate. andrew luck was not shutdown against oregon. did anyone actually watch stanford vs oregon or do they just look at the box score, mouthbreathe and run with it? he made one awful, clausen-esque throw on his first interception but otherwise played very well and his team lost that game because their defense fell apart in the second half and his top receiver got knocked out, fumbled (returned inside the 5) and concussed all on one play

i know 98% of this board is incapable of watching football and understanding what is going on so here are some other examples of "accurate" QBs in their last college year:

jamarcus russell: 67.8 completion percentage

jimmy clausen: 68.0%

alex smith: 67.5% also a winner. 21-1 career record! just winzzzzzz

tim couch: 72.3%

oh...here's zach colloras' stats filling in for tony pike last year: 75%

oh yea, how about these "inaccurate" qbs in their last year

matt ryan: 59.3%

josh freeman: 58.6%

i wish the nfc south GMs were as dumb as some of you guys. newsflash: when a QB throws swing passes 70% of the time, they should have a really high completion percentage. when an actually good QB is put in that kind of offense, you have things happen like that year colt mccoy was at 80% for most of it or sam bradford's entire career. FWIW andrew luck's completion% is a bit inflated too, the WCO he runs at stanford affords him a lot of easy passes...though not quite to the same extent as newton or even jimmy clausen at ND

newton has some sick physical tools but also has a ton of issues. the freeman comparisons are dumb and lazy (sort of like his footwork in the pocket, thanks for that term TRD...best way to sum it up). he actually reminds me more of mcnabb than anyone, though he also has a lot in common with akili smith.

Glad some people get it. Pat Yasinskas does too.

dude, seriously?

Yeah, seriously:

Jimmy's Rookie year:

http://www.nfl.com/players/jimmyclausen/profile?id=CLA709185

GS - 10, Completion % = 52.2, TD = 3, Int = 9, Sacks taken = 33

Carr's rookie year:

http://www.nfl.com/players/davidcarr/profile?id=CAR358385

GS - 16, Completion % = 52.5, TD = 9, Int = 15 Sacks Taken = 76

Had Jimmy started the full 16 games, I'm fairly sure he would have eaten about 50+ sacks.

He's shell shocked. Done.

Welcome to the Carolina fanbase. We want all our qbs to be the same. Even if they all suck! HOOT HOOT! Luck isnt coming to save us next year.

there is an enormous disparity between 33 and 76, we get it your a Newton homer you want a Qb with no footwork accuracy or ability to play in an nfl offense your entitled to your opinion good thing for the rest of us is no one else thinks he is worth the #1.

Again, gotta agree with you KT.

Its amazing to me how many people are willing to write off our chances at having a good year next year, just because Luck didn't declare. You'd think the guy won the Super Bowl already with all the stock placed in him.

now I'm not the best with math, but Jimmy started 10 games, played extensively (and was sacked) in 12. So he had 33 in 12 or a little under 3 a game.

Carr had 76 in 16 games, or a little under 5.

That's a huge f'ing difference.
