Pat Yasinskas on Cam Newton: Go get him.

I don't like the running QB...but there is something good about this kid that is undeniable. I wouldn't be mad if we moved down and took him.

if we moved down and took him i wouldnt hate it, but at number one overall, it is just too much of a reach and i doubt we will be able to trade the pick.

agree, what i would do is get a good QB coach and a good coordinator, sign a Volek or Bulger and see if they can tutor Clausen and see if he plays like an NFL quarterback or still stinks it up and wait next year where they could have a Landry Jones, Matt Barkley or Andrew Luck.

Volek... BULGER tutoring Clausen?

Good lord.

I've read it all now.

There have been countless threads with this discussion, at least one with videos shown of where Newton makes one read, before breaking off to run. Often it's one and run. I'm not saying he won't be a good pro prospect but he is a project. He has a lot to learn and much of what he has relied on this season just won't be there in the NFL (basically being bigger and stronger and faster than anyone else).

Cam Newton may not even be the best quarterback in this draft, why should we take him #1? If you want a big guy with a strong arm, there's a couple others that fit that bill. If you want to consider leadership ability and/or character, there are a couple other guys there (and as far as character goes there are people clearly ahead of him simply because they dont have question marks there).

You can't keep throwing picks at a position. At some point you have to just go with a FA if you arent sold on the people in the draft that spot... and I don't think people will be sold on Cam.

We have two projects at quarterback already. A third would mean you are probably cutting one of those two. I don't think we're ready to do that unless we are 100% sold on a guy... and I don't think we are.

People down on Cam say "He has no foot skillz", "He has no accuracy", "He can't make reads"...

Yet, there is NO PROOF of any of that. I've asked for it in three threads across 20 some odd pages of haters replying this same broken record.

Someone please show me consistent evidence to back these claims up (like, a whole game where he is throwing off his front foot) and I'll stop making Cam threads.

I did a play by play breakdown in the other Cam thread. I'm still waiting for your play by play rebuttle.

My problem with Armanti and against Newton is that we really needed a WR so Hurney & co. mortgaged the future to get a guy that had all the physical tools but was a known project, because they feared someone else would get him. We reached IMO at minimum a full round too high for him because we needed a WR. He didn't do anything at all this year, and probably won't in 2011 either.

I don't want to take Newton #1 overall because someone else may or may not take him where he should be, which to me is early 2nd.

The irony is if we hadn't done the Armanti trade, we'd be primed to get Fairley and Newton with our 1 and 2.

Don't throw good money after bad. Draft Fairley, pickup a stopgap vet like Orten or see what Clausen has with a better supporting cast, and go into next year with your full complament of draft picks.

I'm sorry but I see nothing in Cam Newton that say's franchise QB. Yes he is a tremendous athlete but his mechanics are terrible. Count how many times he goes through his progressions? The spread offense Auburn uses is a single read system. If the first read isn't there he takes off running. I'm sorry but he reminds me too much of Vince Young, Alex Smith and Akili Smith.

You had three plays where you saw one thing, I saw another. We covered that already.

And in a poll, about 45-50% of the responders saw it the way I did.

I did a breakdown of the first 10 drives of the NC game. I did a breakdown of his play and what I saw, including lousy footwork and no accuracy.

Please rewatch the whole game, take my post and make a play by play rebuttle or do as you promised and stop talking about Cameron Newton.

Edit:

Here's a link...I'll be waiting

My problem with evaluating players in the NC game is how long they are off before hitting the field again. I think this year it was ~45 days. I really wish they'd either extend the regular season into mid Dec or push up the NC game to the first week in Jan and dump half the crap bowls. That said, neither QB looked good in that game.
