Pat Yasinskas on Cam Newton: Go get him.

Only in a few people's heads does he belong in the convo for #1.

In fact, the majority of the country, experts and amateurs alike, think he's not even the top QB to go in the draft and the other 4 players being discussed are way more likely and polished than Cam.

Rght now he's the 14th-16th ranked player in the draft... He's expected to go anywhere from 7th on back.

Gabbert is the highest ranked QB in the draft right now based on draft rankings.

Although that could all change with the Combine.

And I'm not debating that other players might "have more polish".

But the NFL is a QB league. And we're the worst at that position in the league.

Free Agency is a clusterfug.... so we either go with a draft pick (which is a roll of the dice for ANY one), or we continue to suck ass with Clausen/Moore. Right now Cam is the best on the board for QB.

Again, I would have been all for picking Luck as #1. But that ship has sailed (for now). We need to focus on what's available.

Well that's just it. I believe the weight of the facts supports his inclusion in a #1 pick conversation.

Many don't, but when I ask why their reasons are very thin, or are based on subjective opinion.

When Luck was being discussed, I was all for it. The assertion that he was going as #1 for us was accepted without a problem. Yet even HE knew he wasn't ready for the Pros.

But here we have Newton. The stats, the rewards, the physical aptitude measurements are all well above average for a player coming into the Draft. Apart from some family issues, what's the REAL TANGIBLE downsides?

I'm reading threads that we should keep Clausen as our starter... we should bring in old vets who are washed up and have been in the bottom of the league for years. Why? WTF? That's not going forward... that's moving backwards, or staying where we are.

It sounds a lot like youre basing what you think is the average opinion on what youre reading on these forums. Remember man, typically the loudest and most persistent fans around here are the ones who are fuggin tards. Im not gonna call people out but they know who they are and theyre proud of it for some reason.

I think the average opinion is closer to:

1) Luck would have indeed been a sure thing

2) Clausen should NOT be the starter next year but we should keep him and see how he turns out

3) We need QB competition for Moore or Clausen (or both)

and 4) Newton has as many pros as he has cons

I agree, except replace Fairley with Green. Orton's not a FA though, hopefully they'd take a third next year for him. Wouldn't wanna give up this year's 3rd though. First two days of the draft would be boring as hell for us. We'll probably know who the #1 is before the draft, then we'd have to wait til day 3 :(

I think we need to draft fairly and pick up kyle Orton in FA. Maybe Orton can give us a few good years and help to bring along our young QB's.
