Pat Yasinskas on Cam Newton: Go get him.

it irritates the hell out of me that people call me racist or say I'm looking at Newton's skin color because I don't want to take him with the #1 and think he's a project at the QB spot.

He has enormous strength and makes some great plays. He's one of the more fun college players to watch. But I don't want him high in the first round and I just think we have too many project-players at QB as it is for another.

Not like I wouldn't support him if we drafted him. I just am not sold that he is a great QB prospect right away.

you don't get it.

Carr was "carr'd" because he took 70 sacks.

Jimmy took 33 sacks.

Do you see how those numbers are different?? It doesn't matter if he'd have taken 40, 50, or 80 if he had started all 16 games. He didn't. He only took 33 sacks. It's not like Clausen woke up in the morning and went, "Oh MAN am I afraid to play football because I coulda taken another 30 sacks if I'd played in more games!!!" and if he is, any number of sacks woulda done that.

Plenty of QBs took more sacks than he did this year and I've not heard anyone saying "oh god Flacco could be Carr'd now!"

Ok... but is Jimmy's stats more like Carr or more like Flacco?

Do YOU get it now?

For the foolish people not paying attention...

whether white or black, everyone has pretty much said the same thing.. NO QB is worth the #1 pick. So I'm not sure where the racism comes from or how this fanbase wants only one type of player whether we suck or not...

They aren't even as good, passing-wise, as Carr's. You're just reaching.

If 30-some sacks are going to screw Clausen over then he wasn't worth a damn in the first place.

My point, exactly.

And this is coming from someone who said he looked "ok" at ND, and was optimistic to see what he could do. Turns out, not much.

Rankings are simply AP journalists and sports analysts. You draft what you need. Right now, our defense is serviceable. Hell, as Beason pointed out in a blog post recently, we were as high as #4 on D this past year.

We need someone who can lead this team to victory. Cam can do that. He isn't a project. His mechanics aren't as screwed up as people say they are. His sheer athleticism elevates his teammates.

It's Newton time.

You guys really gotta put down the fantasy mags, and video games and learn about football. Cam Newton is NOT ready for the NFL game. In the last week experts are finally admitting it.

Yeah? Please tell me what Experts.

He's Mel Kiper's take:

That's because as a QB prospect, there is no reason Newton can't or shouldn't be a first-round pick in the NFL draft. He's ahead of where The Golden Calf of Bristol was at this point, in my eyes. This isn't an H-back, or a guy better-suited to tight end. He's a quarterback, and while he has questions to answer, he's also got a real shot to make it at the next level.

I've asked for a play by play rebuttle. Instead you'd rather make dumb general comments because you know you can't back it up with evidence.

lol, TRD, you crack me up.

Your opinion post is not "evidence". Sorry.

That would be like me walking into a courtroom and saying "Your honor, I present to you my interpretation of the facts at hand as evidence."

The only people who get to do that are experts. And even then, they can be proven wrong.

And if you want to back up your credentials as an "expert", then your post might have more relevancy. Still wouldn't be "evidence".

And you won't get a play-by-play rebuttal, because I simply do not have 3 hours to invest in an internet argument. You do I guess?

I'm not saying it's evidence or fact.

What I'm saying is by doing it that way, we have specific plays in a game to look over that everyone has seen. We both know what play each other is talking about and can point to examples during the play to prove our point.

This general nonsense is ridiculous.

Here is an example:

1st Drive:

2nd down - Sloppy footwork leads to having to reset before throw making it late, resulting in a sack/fumble

Which means that if his footwork was better he wouldn't have had to reset before he threw which means he could have gotten the throw off in time and not taken the sack/fumble.

Then you can say something like:

I disagree, as you can see in the video, Cam took a great drop back, with quick and precise footwork, stepped up, but unfortunately got hit and sacked

And as I said before, I could do this, and you can still disagree with me, because its my opinion versus your opinion.

It's already established that we see subtle differences in football differently. Just arguing about how we interpret game play footage won't get us anywhere.

I've watched Newton play. I've formed my own opinions about him, not just from the NC game, but from multiple games across the span of their undefeated run.

Tell you what... go back and do what you did for the NC for the SEC Championship game. Tell me what you see there.

P.S. I mentioned this thread to a friend and co-worker familiar with Auburn and Newton... it was immediately pointed out to me that there was a almost a month of time away from football for the NC game for the players in it. So nothing in the NC game can be indicative of his consistency patterns.

    • Just because we made a bad trade and selected the wrong QB does not mean we should double triple and quadruple down on a QB who is currently for this season 35th in passing yards 36th in touchdowns 39th in yards per attempt 40th in yards per game 39th in completion % and 42nd in passer rating. In this league you need not only a really good QB but it pays dividends to have a good backup plan in place. Why would you or anyone else be against us having a real legitimate insurance policy this go around instead of a washed up Andy Dalton and an afterthought like Jack Plummer? It sounds to me like some of you are only invested in catering to one player because you want to salvage the trade instead of doing what is best for the whole team long term. Bryce Young does not carry that level of sway. That's all there is to it.
    • I honestly do wonder how much of an impact his breakup with his GF had on thing First two weeks like you said he looked depressed. Gets a month to get over it and comes back a completely new person
    • Man whether it's the Panthers or the Hornets it's crazy how many foolish talking heads there are in the local media. I just unsubscribed from locked on Hornets. Doug Branson with his cheesy mustache is an absolute clown especially when his partner isn't on. Talking about trading LaMelo because he can't win basketball games by himself with no semblance whatsoever of a legitimate Center. These YouTube personalities will say anything for a damn click.
