Kiper just made a good point on Mike & Mike

Find me another QB that was successful in his first year with questionable O-line play (as well as injuries), starting RB put on IR, two rookie receivers to go along with a pouty wide receiver that dropped half the balls thrown to him.

While I'm not convinced that Clausen will be any good, I'm certainly not stupid enough to dismiss him after those things mentioned above.

lol, Jonathan Stewart was one of the most productive RBs in the NFL in the 2nd half of the season. DWill going to IR is a mute point. That is why we have Double Trouble.

Steve Smith is a pro bowl WR who Clausen just flat out ignored.

OL play wasn't consistantly bad. They played pretty well overall once they got some consistant bodies on the field.

Late in the season, Clausen flat out had a decent team around him.

you could put Jimmy Clausen on the Steelers team and he would make the defense signicantly worse, he would limit the effectiveness of the RBs, the OL would look worse in pass protection and he would limit the WR production. That is what horrible QB play does....and there are many examples of that not named Clausen.

I believe Joe Flacco was decent his first year coming out of Univ. of Del.

He had a better Oline..

nah, it is the David Carr principle. But a QB that plays like Clausen behind an OL and they will make it look much worse than it is in reality. Defenses know what Clausen will do w/ pressure therefore they bring the heat.

Should Notre Dame have given up on Clausen after his freshman year?

Look how much he improved after 1 year.

Chill out people, 1 season does not define a guy's career. And I didn't even want Clausen to begin with. But since he's hear, let's give the guy a reasonable chance.

Moore did well last season but stunk it up before he got hurt. Clausen seemed to have all the tools and everyone was sure he was #2 well before the season started. Then we lay an egg week after week. Fox is gone regardless of his record. Our strongest asset (the O-Line) looked like it was starting a bunch of Freshman linemen. Gettis and LaFell are the prime Targets. NOTHING is done to get Smitty the ball. Running game asleep for 1/2 the season.

I just think there are too many variables to put the Blame solely on JC.I believe with an imaginative offensive coordinator and Double Trouble you will see a totally different Jimmy Clausen. Yeah he has to shore up the center/QB exchange and get a bit of confidence but I BELIEVE he still can be the QB of the future for us.

Go Panthers

Bradford had a much better oline and there is nothing close to Sam Bradford in the draft for 2010

The question was to name another rookie QB who saw success..blah blah

Now tweak your answers with common sense or realize your answers do not, can not, will not fit the current Panther situation

Is he just trying to save face?

Yes, but his rationale is sound. However, Manning's rookie QB rating was over 20 points higher than Clausen's. However, people forget that Clausen was improving (slightly) last year. His completion percentage and QB ratings went up at the end of the season.

I am not giving up on Clausen, but want a veteran. Add a new, positive staff, a new system with a smart OC, a healthy line, perhaps an offensive weapon or two, RBs who know how to pick up a blitz, and a new beginning, I think he will be fine. Clausen doe not trust the OL. They were bad at ND, and bad last year. He needs to learn to trust the OL. If he gets that, and they open the throwing lanes for him, he will be better.

A lame duck coach

An OC who had no clue how to adjust

3 second-string linemen

Backup RBs who didn't pick up blitzes

No true #1 WR

Rookie #2 WRs

Too many dropped passes

a second round draft pick having to start early in his rookie year

No running game until end of season

What NFL QB as a rookie would have succeeded here?
