Kiper just made a good point on Mike & Mike

if it makes u guys feel better if we stick with clausen for next year we might have Andrew Luck coming up again. :leaving:

That's a positive way of looking at it. As much as I think Clausen could still be developed into a good qb, they should make him compete. Compete against one or two FA qb signings. He has earn it. If he can't, so be it. If he can, then great.

How many Qbs are starting were seen as "ideal" Qbs coming out of college?

lots of QBs have the size, hands, arm strength, release, motion, mechanics, etc.

teams work with them and turn them into great NFL QBs over time.

Clausen comes in on the short end of the stick on just about everything. Kid has been groomed his entire life to play QB and is a hard worker.....he is now at the level where the talent/physical stuff he has always lacked is going to really catchup to him. imo.

Yeaaa so say we give (as fans ) clausen another year and he still sucks what to you bcjs ( blind clausen jock sniffers) say then??? Do you start blaming the new coaching staff and blame it on him learning a new system??

When and what will it take for you clausen to realize is the suck?? Another 2 and 14 season? ? I mean you guys are funny and starting to sound like jarrett fans " just give him another year and he will turn his game around "

point blank we play ( or watch the panthers play) to win a superbowl..not just to go out there and play mediocre football. And with clausen at the helm we will never win a superbowl so what's the point in playing him. And ill bet anyone on this forum 1000 bucks that we wont get to the big game with clausen as qb.

Whatever you may think of Kiper, he's actually right.

Doesn't mean I believe Clausen will be a franchise QB, mind you, but he is essentially correct.

If you want to call Kiper an idiot for saying this, you might want to remember that in his introductory press conference, Ron Rivera said pretty much the same thing.

No, you give the guy a chance to learn and mature like you originally planned anyways.

Then we let the wbnmq stfu

No contradiction there. You can do both.

true 'nuff, but the likelihood Clausen ends up a HOFer is pretty remote... it's pretty clear Kiper was referring to Clausen with his comments considering how hard he was on hyping the guy.

I really hope Clausen makes me eat my words next year, I just wouldn't bet on it.

wow.. entirely too many posts to comment on..

1st, Clausen shouldn't be "showing" us anything in the next 2 years.. he needs to hold a clipboard while a vet takes over. Grab McNabb if he's the only possibility.. we shouldn't be at the bottom of the league because of Clausen, because he shouldn't be playing. there is no harm stashing him on the bench to see if he grows as a passer.

2nd, our coaching staff was f**king horrible last year. I don't give a f**k about a 12-4 record 2 years before. a) because we went 12-4 doesn't mean our coaching staff can coach up a rookie QB. B) what motivation did they have to coach him up? their actions certainly told a different story

How did their actions tell a different story? well either they are incompetent (point A I just raised) or they didn't want to put Clausen in a position to win. I don't care which of those you think it is, fact remains 1 of those is true.. totally irrelevant which one it is. the only thing relevant is that 1 of those do exist..

we did NOTHING to put Clausen in a position to win. we didn't help him with confidence or rhythm.. plenty of times our strategy was to run the ball on 1st and 2nd, and then force our ROOKIE QB to throw on 3rd and long. not only did we force him to throw on 3rd and long, but we didn't do anything to help him with those plays. We expected protection to hold up for the play to develop (which most of the time didn't and he got sacked) instead of throwing a screen pass or a slant, anything more creative than the bullshit we put out there on the field.

also, we never ran plays that would help him get into rhythm.. instead of plays that take time to develop, get some short passes in there to get your ROOOOOOOOOKIE QB into some rhythm with his receivers..

none of this is so f**king hard to understand and I can't believe our coaching staff didn't do any of this.. Biggest reason you saw Bradford succeed and Clausen fail..

granted, Clausen didn't look good at all last year.. but if you think that falls solely on Clausen, you're a damned fool.. what he was last year doesn't mean it'll be what he is in the future..

now that isn't to say he won't be a career backup, but no intelligent person with all facts considered is stupid enough to judge him off last year..

Look, QB play was bad, but it's like alot people forget, how bad the O-Line was early (due to injury and shufflling), D-Will IR, Stew out with a concussion for a few games, no real # 2 receiver, no QB's best friend (a good TE). Not to mention extremely predictable play-calling, I mean as a fan if I can guess what you're doing then a NFL DC opposing team has to know.

When we get those things fixed weapons, along with better than avg coaching I think we'll begin to move forward. And to those who said Clausen didn't show glimpses, he did see the Cleveland game...two missed FG's cost us the game along with poor tackling in the 1 st half. He's had flashes, but I really think a lot of people got caught up in the draft hype as if we already had a great offense in place and just needed a QB....uh no.

I just look at guys like Brees. Undersized, small hands, arm strength isn't the best, his point of release hindered him a little early on, causing his passes to get batted down at the LOS.

Mechanics are a little different between the two, and Brees' arm strength is probably a little stronger than Clausen's and his release on the deep ball is faster. Still...... if Brees can turn himself into a superstar......... I'm not sure why Clausen can't find a way to turn himself into just a half decent qb.

Brees had one thing in abundance though, confidence. Clausen seems uncomfortable and unsure of himself out there, he's not really paying attention to the coverage of opposing defenses as much as he seems to be worrying about the pressure coming his way, even when there isn't pressure. We don't know what we have in him yet. We saw a scared kid out there last season. The unending check downs and constant running around in the pocket showed that.

Before anyone mentions the "Omg he used Brees and compared him to Clausen".....I'm not saying he'll be anywhere close to the qb Brees is. Brees is one of a kind. Just, Clausen should be able to at least be an average qb.
