Kiper just made a good point on Mike & Mike

Hes cheap, young, and has some upside, but I would have to agree he showed absouletly nothing this season IMO. Don't get me wrong the ones that think he is already a bust are ignorant but so is anyone that is convinced he wont be one.

There really is no downside to at least keeping him another year or 2. But do not go into the season without at least a solid Vet. Also Moore, if cheap enough, should be retained. As it stands he is still the best QB on our roster and would make a hell of a #3 QB.

No. Here is the difference.

Kiper is talking about Manning, Aikman, etc. and how QBs have "bad" seasons and grow into the QB position.....and that is true. They did have "bad" seasons and grew into great QBs. However, during the "bad" rookie year they showed glimpses of greatness and showed why a team should work with them to grow.

Clausen showed zero glimpses.....and that has everything to do w/ Jimmy. On top of showing zero glimpses he lacks the basic physical attributes you want in a QB. Blame for that can't be put on a decent team around him and decent coach.....like so many like to do.

Another difference was that Manning, Aikman, etc. went into game 1 as the unquestioned starter. They had the bulk of the snaps with starters during OTAs, training camp, etc. to develop their rapport/chemistry with the receivers, Rbs. For Jimmy's first off season, Moore was the designated starter and he got the starter reps through the passing game upgrades. Jimmy was inserted following Moore's concussion, and they swapped back for a game or 2 as well.

May be obvious, but still the truth...

Causen didn't have a great support system, that is a fact, but...

What did he do with the opportunity? Not a damn thing.

He didn't even show that he could lead a team downfield with ANY efficiency, much less lead a scoring drive against a playoff defense late in the season.

There's not a lot to love about Jimmy's game. I'm all for giving him 1 more year, with a proven vet to help him along, but let's remember that they weren't asking him to do much...and he did even LESS than that.

Everybody sucked, but he sucked the most. I have no confidence that he is the long term answer. But, with Luck off the table, there really isn't any reason to use a high draft pick on a lesser talented QB.

yeah, that would mean something if Jimmy was only inserted week 2-5 and then pulled for the season. Then you would have a point.

the fact remains, by the end of the season....there was no excuse for how sad Jimmy was. Decent team around him, had been working w/ the team as THE guy for weeks in practice and games.......

Moore was an udrafted rookie in 07 and did well coming in....there were a handful of rookie QBs who saw time this year and looked better than Jimmy that weren't given the job and prepped prior to week 1 for the role.

Sounds like your opinion..

From what Rivera said I think they will give him another chance with competition and thats probably what Hurney told him.

I hear that you WANT to believe that Clausen wasn't coached this year.

Hell, was anybody really "coached" this year?

J/k

Jimmy was put into the fire---and it was a big blazin' motherfugin' fire---too soon. I don't know what part of this concept is hard to understand.

that might have been an excuse for week 8, but after starting that many games we should have seen at least a small chance of that light going off in his head. but we did not. he showed no progression over the season and playing in 10+ games he should have shown something.

people rag on peyton throwing all those pics, but he had a a good number of td thrown as well.im not saying give up on clausen bc yeah he is cheap and young, but as of right now he is not the answer. and won't be.

First of all most of those guys you are comparing Clausen too were first rounders and they played because their team sucked so they had nothing to lose. Much like us with Collins in 1995. The expectations were very low. Even then Collins actually had a winning record as a starter his rookie year.

If you look at our team after going 8-8 in 2009 the drop to a 2-14 year was precipitous and very unwelcome. And the lack of offensive power was the major reason. Seriously 3 TDS in 10 starts?? Fans are not going to accept another year like that while the FO decides if Clausen has the ability to be a starter. We need to be at least middle of the pack like we were when we went from 1-15 to 7-9 under Fox his first year.

So while Clausen will be here for another 3 years at least, there is a real expectation that things will be much better this year and that requires the same thing that Fox did. Bring in a veteran to start and let Clausen sit on the sidelines and learn if he can. But there is no reason to put him in and flounder for another year or two while everyone decides if he has the skill set to play. Because if they are wrong and he doesn't, it has set the franchise back for several years. At only 2.5 million a season he is being compensated similarly to a backup and there is no demand to play him at all. Let's watch him play in practice and in the preseason and see where he is, but let's get someone in here with a more proven track record in the meantime.

Of course Clausen is going to be here, he is signed for 4 years. They will bring in competition which I hope means a veteran and let them compete. And if Jimmy wins he will play. I would find it hard to believe that we couldn't find a veteran who can play better though.

that isn't opinion....Clausen doesn't have the "ideal" attributes and physical traits people look for in a NFL QB. Height, size, hands, arm strength, throwing motion, release, etc.

From what Rivera said, he is gonna bring in competition. Unless they bring in a one armed man......Clausen ain't gonna win any competition. Most people think Moore was/is bad......and he looked light years ahead of Clausen in camp, practice and games per reports.

Clausen will be on the team. There is no reason to think he will realistically have a shot at starting week 1.
