Chargers have been pretty adamant that nobody is leaving with Rivera since most of their staff is under contract. I remember there was a thread posted before on it I'll try to find it.

If they are offered a position that gives them a promotion from their contract job, they can't be stopped from leaving.

If I'm not mistaken the NFL considers all assistants the same whether they are a coordinator or just a position coach so it wouldn't be a promotion, but I might be wrong about that.

No. If you get a promotion with another team your contract is pretty much non existant. Can't keep a person from advancing.

I think coordinators are considered a different level. We had to request position from the Chargers to speak to Rivera. Teams usually give that permission. It would be hard to get quality people if they knew they would be locked in and not allowed advancement opportunities.

Incorrect.....only the coordinators cannot be blocked for a HC opportunity. The same is not afforded to position coaches. If they are under contract, they can be denied.

Officially, a QB coach that is under contract with his team can be denied by said team to interview for a Offensive Coordinator position with another team. However, most teams do see this as a promotion and will not block these moves. The reason for the official rule and why team sometimes don't allow for a position coach to interview for a coordinator position is because of it being within the same division or with a heated rival or if that assistant is in waiting i.e. Butler in Pittsburgh behind LeBeau.
