Most famous celebrity you ever had a conversation with?

Not talking about a simple handshake in passing.

1. Back in the day when I lived in Savannah I was stuck at the ATL airport waiting on a late night flight while on R&R. I was in my Army uniform reading a newspaper and someone across from where I was sitting started to talk to me. I looked up and it was Tom Berenger. Inside I was like "holy poo, it's the Platoon bad ass", but I didn't say anything about him being a movie start. We just talked about family and our destinations. He lives in Beauford, SC which surprised me. And his wife was the hottest 40 year old I've ever laid my eyes on

All of it made me realize that a) Army uniform does wonders in public and B) ATL airport is the place to be

I met Tom too he came in my restaurant with his wife and they had lunch...Real cool guy, wife smokin.

President Carter

Just about every NASCAR personality that was in the sport from 1980-2000

All the Panthers from 2000-2008

Nicest guys were those just coming into their sport and dealing with spotlight for the first time.

Biggest pricks...Dale Earnhardt Sr, Mark Martin, Jack Sprague, couple of Panthers who will go unnamed

I grew up in the infield of NASCAR in the late 70's -90's, I met Dale Sr many times and he was always nice to me even met DE JR well before he was JR. Richard Petty was the coolest he loved to talk....My dad was his super fan so that was cool. D Waltrip he was an asshole.

Nascar in the 80's was a great time but when it boomed the fan interaction was never the same. I dont even watch anymore since Dale died.

Politicos - President Ron Reagan, VP George Bush, Alexander Haig and Oliver North in Washington. It was a military thing.

TV - Richard Bey - I was in the studio doing a different show and he was trying to get me on one of his. "Well, just say you are a "(fill in the blank)" to get the crowd going and then we can reveal who you really are."

TV - Henry Winkler - I was backstage at at Rockefeller Center and he came down the hallway. I was introduced to him and I looked at him, held both thumbs up and said "Aaaaaayyyyyy." He looked pissed. And short. I did party afterwards with Tracy Chapman and her band, they thought it was hilarious :D

Music - Greg Graffin and Bret Guerwitz of Bad Religion - A good friend's roommate was their tour bus driver and they stopped by to visit. My buddy called me (I'm a big fan) to bring Pantha-Daughter #2 who was 2 yo then (she's 23 now). We hung out and I had her sing her favorite song at the time ("Faith Alone" one of theirs) and they just melted. They gave he all kinds of signed stuff and it was really cool. They played where we live now a few years ago and a friend got me and her backstage. We talked a bit and asked if they remembered that and they did. We got more free stuff.

2. Benjamin Bratt once paid for my order at the same airport when he was behind me in the line. I should have asked to smell his finger :o

Berenger's daughter graduated from Wofford. Goes by his real last name, Moore.

I met and talked at length with Lewis Grizzard. I introduced him at a performance here in Spartanburg.

I escorted (no, not that kind) Joe Theismann when he spoke in Spartanburg, too. Picked him up from the airport, then took him back. Cool clear blue eyes, hardest chest I've ever put my hands on. Arrogant, but in a nice way. We had great conversations en route. Very impressive speaker, too.

Also escorted Dan Jensen (the ice skater) and Billy Payne, the Atlanta Olympics head.

I have friendships with a former Panthers players (and his wife), former race car driver and others I consider "celebrities."

I accidentally insulted him earlier this year. He was co-hosting Charlotte Today and my band was on there performing. He came up to me chatting me up wanting to know about the band and I asked how long he had been hosting the show etc. He seemed mildly annoyed until I realized just who he was and then I tried to smoothly acknowledge that he was an olympic gold medalist.

He was pretty nice, but quiet, when I met him. He had his dad with him ... there's no denying him; they look exactly alike. I only took them around town, so I spent less time with them than with Joe.

Dan was a terrible speaker, though. Had a terrific story to tell. It's a shame no one coached him on public speaking.

I suppose the most famous people I've talked to are George A. Romero and Tammy Fay Baker. I co-wrote a zombie film that was part of a larger zombie film competition in Charlotte that Romero helped judge. Tammy Fay Baker, well, I got in a heated chat with her about why the store I was working at didn't carry bowling shoes in small sizes.
