AJ Green or Nick Fairley

Taking Green makes absolutely no sense, DT is ten times a bigger need, so Green may score TDs but we will still never get any pressure on the QB. Also it's hard-pressed to find dominate DTs in the later rounds, unlike WRs - I mean we got Gettis in the 6th round this year - we took 3 WRs last year. I know Green is going to be a stud but so is Fairley. Taking Green makes no sense, what's the point in filling up the depth chart with a ton of talent at one position. Whether you like it or not, as a Panther fan you have to admit we need Fairley more.

DT is not a need at all. we don't even need to sign FA DT, much less draft one first overall. Rivera fielded the top defense in the league with some 5th and 6th round scrub DTs. we already have the talent to be a top defense. there's no need to waist picks on it.

we were dead last in the league on offense. we will fail without improving the passing game. the only way to do that in this draft is by drafting Green.

this sentence: "so Green may score TDs but we will still never get any pressure on the QB" should baffle any person who has any idea about football games. you have to score points to win games. saying "so Green may score TDs" as if it's something to discount as a need is something an autistic would say.

I agree 100%

Didnt watch many game last year it seems. DT is a glaring weakness and needs improving. We were getting killed up the gut on many plays last year and our DTs are very Small because of Meeks system. On the other hand Tolbert fielded some good WRs that had a QB that could not get them the ball. Missing Smith, Gettis, and LaFell wide open on plays.

That dose not tell me we need another WR, but better QB play.

DT is not a big need? WTF? And WR is? We atleast have serviceable play at WR unlike DT. We may not win many games without scoring points but we won't win any either when you give the QB 5 minutes to throw, especially in a division with Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Josh Freeman. We had some key injuries on offense this year, bring in an FA like Bulger to mentor to Clausen and let's see what Clausen can do with a much more talented team around him, Jeff Otah makes a huge difference. We atleast have decent play at WR, unlike DT.

AJ Green, there should be some options for DT's in Free Agency. It's been said ad-nauseum but how do you NOT address the worst offense in the league? It would be nice to have a dominant receiving corps. in place by the time we get a QB.

truth.. there are options available at WR in FA, but I"m curious how many are really going to be available or who will sign with their current teams.. there are some options for DT..

I'm not really sure why people think the draft is the only route for DT..

to quote MYself...

also throw in the name richard seymour.

there will probably be others available as well.

AJ Green is most likely better than any FA WR coming out this year. can't say the same thing about fairley.

Can you guarantee that all or even any of those DT's will be available? If so, can you guarantee that we will pursue them? And would they even want to come here at all? Heck, can you guarantee that we would be willing to get in a bidding war for them...after all, any decent DT is going to be a hot commodity and have multiple teams fighting for his services.

It's fun to hope and make assumptions based on our owns wants, but none of us has any way of knowing which DT's will even be available in FA, much less if any would be willing to sign here (whether it's for market, money, or whatever). But we do know the unquestioned best one in college football will be there for our choosing, if we so desire. Not to mention the fact that we already have legitimate starting quality WR's on the team, but don't have any DT's that any reasonable person would want as their starter. The need is obvious, and since both players are rated virtually the same, the real value is in which one fills a need. So again, the choice is obvious...regardless of want.

And please don't even think about Haynesworth. You know as well as I do that he is not an option on a Jerry Richardson owned team. He's a well known cancer and malcontent, there's no way he'll ever be a Panther...no matter what any of us think.

same applies in all scenarios.. I think with Rivera being the coach, a lot of DT's would rather come in here and learn from one of the better defensive minds in the game than we have for WRs to do that..

12th ranked defense without any DTs... add in Rivera's expertise to have #1 ranked defenses..

32nd ranked offense and need another threat at WR...

Pretty sure McNabb would love to come and be the guy, teach our Clausen along the way... or maybe we find a way to bring in Orton..

sure let's bring in a spoiled, obnoxious self centered DT.

his attitude certainly won't bring any distractions to our young locker room.

Lol, you've just described 98% of NFL players.

Seriously, how do you know what his attitude is? The only negative I've heard about him is that he's dirty (which some debate as just being a tough, hard nosed player), and other than from fans of other players, I've not heard anything bad about his attitude, work ethic, or anything else.

On the contrary. He actually is praised for it. I have heard a lot of good things about his work ethic. I'm more concerned about him being a 1 year wonder personally. I would go with Bowers or Quinn but I'm in the minority.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
