AJ Green or Nick Fairley

what would you call a 12th ranked defense with no name DTs who just signed the best defensive mind in the league with a last ranked offense and DTs available in FA and deep in the draft?

DTTZZZ ARE DIRE NEEDZZ!!11!!1!1!

We are the 18th ranked defence. Our offence will basically automatically improve by just the combination of the return of a healthy o-line, and the offseason for our rookie QB (and/or getting a Vet qQ) and WR's. I want Green, but there are valid points for Fairley as well.

You only get one shot at number one.

Unless we reach for Fairley.

Then we might get another.

Never reach for need. Ever.

Take the BPA. Green, and by a longshot too.

I agree to an extent. But when you have the number one pick everybody is a talent. If you can't trade down you feel really highly, and know you won't get another chance, you pick him regardless.

This team has had some pretty successful Defenses with only adequate DTs.

The lack of a number 2 WR has killed us for years, and with Smitty getting older, I just think Green makes too much sense to pass up.

He's the BPA, and he can help give us a dynamic, COMPLETE, Receiving corp, even after Smitty leaves.

Green, Gettis, LaFell.

That's pretty impressive.

Additionally, he can be a nice luxury for whatever stop gap QB we have under center next season, making the offense overall better.

I just don't think you can pass on him unless you get a sweet deal trading down.

I wasn't arguing agianst Green (Im for it) just that BPA doesn't always apply.

But this team has been great at first round picks, if they rate Fairley better, then go for him.

Define nice? Where do you think that WR group will rank in the NFL? Bottom 8?

Nice "meaning" with a good QB could be top 20 maybe top 15. We still don't know what kind of QB we will be playing with. So getting a stud WR won't be as rewarding.

But right now getting a stud DT puts us back as a top 10 defence. Maybe even top 5. More pressure from the middle makes everybody job on the defence easier.

Wtf?

First of all, drafting Fairley #1 is NOT a reach. He's a legitimate top 5 pick, and if he's a reach then so is Bowers, Green, Peterson, etc.

Second of all, to say that Green is "clearly" the BPA compared to Fairley is ridiculous. They're about equal in terms of talent.

Even if Fairley was on the level of Green (he's not; one season of success doesn't measure up to Green's full career at UGA, especially when Fairley had poor seasons before this one) his value is nowhere near as high.

Good WR's are to come by. DT's, not so much.

See my previous post in this thread.

Stud DT's are just as hard to come by as Stud WR's, I'm not sure what makes you think otherwise. And length of success doesn't have any bearing on a player's value. Guys get drafted high after one good season all the time. Luck wasn't anything special before this season but we would have taken him. Cam Newton was a nobody until this year and will go in the first round. Also, we drafted three WR's last year and one of them with our first pick. I highly doubt the FO picks another one when two of our rookie WR's from last year showed plenty of promise.
