John Fox is Denver's new head coach

Watched them all, and the scheme didn't change one bit. If they had truly made adjustments, it would stand to reason that the changes made would be to capitalize on Clausen's strengths, and while Jimmy may not be very good I can't believe that he is actually THAT BAD. The guy put up solid number at ND at a minimum because the system was suited to short, quick throws, misdirection, and varied play calling. Any of that sound like what you saw this year?

I daresay as well that the checkdowns were perhaps as much a product of Jimmy's comfort level with a nickel-and-dime passing game as much as poor receiver and line play. The line was not great in pass protection this year (ANOTHER reason the scheme shoudl have been altered), and this was likely compounded by the fact that Clausen just was not adept at seeing that type of play development.

Exactly what are those?

TRD... you are all over trashing Pickles (which I agree with actually, he stunk it up)... but who's going to come in and replace him? You're down on Newton... so FA? Who? Moore?

I haven't "trashed" him, I've simply stated observations that happen to be true.

If you want a list of who could replace him I don't have enough time to type one that long.

I think he'll sign a FA, resign Moore, and MAYBE draft someone in the late rounds and let them all compete. I think Moore wins the job. Moore/Vet/Clausen/Pike and possibly draft pick all in camp. 2 go home.

not saying much there.

i won't overlook only 3 winning seasons and just 1 in the past 5 years. i won't overlook his stubborn commitment to his chosen players and his narrow-minded and antiquated brand of football that held this team back for years and left us with a mess, esp. at QB.

Yeah, what he said.

I find it tremendously entertaining that Fox was hired by a HOF QB running a team that decided to make it's HC search so transparent they streamed the video of the interviews.

If his performance here was any indication, he'll do fine his 1st couple years, and then the wheels will start coming off. Fox has shown 1 thing consistently-the inability or unwillingness to develop young offensive talent.

That and like Rayzor said-3 winning seasons in 9, 1 in the last 5 years. That's on his record, and that's not good.

I would say that he would be a servicable to good West Coast-type QB in an offense featuring quick throws, screens, and misdirection similar to what he ran at ND. Nothing that I saw him do in college indicated he would be anything special in the NFL or remotely adept in Fox's style of offense, and thsi year he was a terrible vertical QB with, at least currently, poor pocket presence. Seems to me that if a coach's hand was forced with Clausen as Fox's was, a good coach would aim to emulate the success that the player had enjoyed before instead of bull-headedly pressing forward with something that clearly ain't working.

1.If what Clausen was working in was truly a "pro style offense" (which is what we were all told...) which was almost identical to the system Davidson ran here, the system excuse goes right out the window.

2.West Coast requires an athletic, accurate, fast decision maker. Pickles is NONE OF THOSE THINGS.

I didn't support drafting the guy - I'm saying that Fox should've figured out what Clausen CAN do, whatever it is, and gone with that. Jimmy had success at Notre Dame against some solid competition, so he's obviously capable of doing something right. Not being a Clausen apologist here; I just have a hard time believinh that he is entirely inept.

Frankly, if Fox's system was so broken last year that no QB could have been successful then that should say everything that needs to be said.

I find it funny how Broncos fans think they know more about Fox than we do.

i've read that board

they have no idea what they're walking in to

they think fox overachieved despite the front office, and i've endured reading comments like "he won while being stuck with jake delhomme at QB!" and "there's no talent on that team i mean look at dan connor he was a MLB and only had around 50 tackles last season" (lol)

their forum makes the carolinahuddle look like a discussion about the exact density of intergalactic hydrogen plasma between astronauts on the Endeavour

As a previous poster said earlier in the thread, if I was a fan of a team that had just hired a new head coach, someone recently let go from a team he had just coached to 2-14, I wouldn't be too thrilled.

Facts be damned, that would not be an exciting hire. But he's way better than McDaniels.
