but they ahve the ability to turn it on from QB when they need to. if they for some reason fall behind (and it happens) they have a QB and a passing game that can bring them back. big ben is pretty far from a weak link in their offense. he's essential to it.

I said I was joking :)

You think it might have to do with the fact that the Pats didn't have a run game?? It isn't the opposite at all. You stop the run and make them one dimensional so you can dial up the pressure and sack the quarterback. The pats just made it easier by only running the ball 15 times for 43 yards. And it made Brady easier to sack as the DEs could turn it loose. It didn't take pressure off Brady.

Last year New Orleans won the superbowl because of their rushing attack and defense as much as Brees passing.

The Pats had gone undefeated that year without a run game, the Giants realized that the only way to beat the Pats was to get pressure on Brady... if the Giants had played conservative "stop the run" defense Brady would have picked them apart.

The Pats were never going to try to win that game by running the ball, so it would have been silly to play "stop the run" defense. Many teams had tried to get pressure on Brady that year and failed miserably, so it was an exceptional job by the Giants defense.

At the point that the Giants were getting pressure on Brady, the Pats needed a run game but the bottom line is that the Giants had to take away the pass first by getting pressure on Brady to make the lack of a running game an issue.

Agreed, he's NEAR the top of the league. But it can't be argued that his team was still good without him. They went 4-1, beat the #1 seed in the NFC, and did it without a QB. That's how good their defense is.

The Jets beat arguably a top 5 all time QB with a run game and a defense.

People often overhype QBs of good teams into something they aren't (Cassel in KC, countless others). You can't overhype a defense.

I hear ya.. and agree.. I think we need a solid QB regardless, but defense and ST's are very important as well..

I think an Elite QB helps you put more money into the D and STs.. as long as you put some dough in the OLine..

there's a thread on Lafell's tweets.

well, multiples of them.

the guy never means what it sounds like he does. "who dat" was "who is that" not some saints bullshit.

I know what "Who Dat" is short for but what I meant was "Hey you're a Panther and "Who Dat" is a popular chant that your division rivals use way too much." I wasn't trying to be an ass to him but he acted to me like "watch what you say or i'll block you" when in reality he's a scrub on a bad football team and is lucky that I or anyone else gives a damn what he says on twitter. I'm tired of athletes acting like the world revolves around them and that they are better than normal human beings that don't play sports for a living.

I just want everyone on here to know that Brandon LaFell is the biggest douche bag on the Panthers. On Twitter he said "Who Dat?" to someone and I responded by saying "a Carolina Panther should never say "Who Dat" and then he tweeted me back and said "Don't get blocked!". I said "Wow you're cocky aren't you. Don't worry I'm unfollowing you right now. Learn how to catch the damn ball!" and he blocked me before I could even unfollow him. I'm not ticked because he blocked me, I'm ticked that this guy is so self-righteous that he feels I'm blessed that I'm able to follow him.

BRANDON LAFELL YOU ARE A DOUCHE BAG!

sorry, i read that random post in this thread, but the only thing i could make out is "waaahhhhh!!!!"

did you watch and go to the games? I don't think this is how the coaching staff adjusted for Clausen at all.

Watched them all, and the scheme didn't change one bit. If they had truly made adjustments, it would stand to reason that the changes made would be to capitalize on Clausen's strengths, and while Jimmy may not be very good I can't believe that he is actually THAT BAD. The guy put up solid number at ND at a minimum because the system was suited to short, quick throws, misdirection, and varied play calling. Any of that sound like what you saw this year?

Bottom line is that a good coach adapts to his players as well, and that just did not happen on offense this year.
