NFC Scout on Gabbert

The thing that bothers me about him and guys like him is, WHO IS HE? Really... I just don't have a good feeling when these guys come out of nowhere and are just riding a wave of hype based off of mainly one year of work.

What I mean is, they may be a JR., but they're only known for playing really well and being a top NFL prospect for one year, they don't have a thorough resume, and he just doesn't impress me. Maybe he has it, but I doubt it.

He was a good prospect last year. He just wasn't going out so he didn't get a ton of press. He had some good numbers though. He has been a highly touted player for some time and there was never any doubt the NFL was in his future if he continued to develop, and heh as.

Gabbert's rise is not at all based on one year but on his last one as well. *shrugs*

I admit, I'm not as familiar with the midwestern/Big 12 teams as I am with others, but I had heard of him... I just didn't hear all of the hype until this year. Whereas, with a guy like Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, etc. I had heard of well before they came out and they were established in college. Only successful guy of recent memory that I remember being another guy that just kind of "blew up" from one year in college was Ben Roethlisberger.

Oh my God, you keep beating the same old drum. We have NOTHING to trade for him. They want a 2nd, where the hell do we pull that from?

everyone on this forum said Marshall wouldn't go for anything less than 2 1st round picks.. all those people look like fools now. just sayin. ;)

someone smart in the FO could find a solution.. only fools look at a situation and find reasons why they can't do something.

the same old drum is the best solution, the FO just has to put a little effort in..

bulger as useless as volek? lol. the dude has actually won games and played whole seasons. you want someone with experience? thats him. i didn't say anything about starting. you want someone who has actually spent time playing to help bring guys along.

what exactly makes volek a good teacher? nothing except for you to find a reason to bring him here. you're reaching at best. he's a weak choice for any reason. saying that kerry collins isn't a better choice than volek is hilarious. do you know why volek left the titans? after mcnair was traded, volek had the opportunity to start and started screwing around, not taking advantage of the situation. fisher wasn't happy with volek's dedication so they brought in collins to compete for the job. volek got his poor little feelings hurt and asked for a trade. the titans were upset with him because he showed very little commitment to preparing for the season and was criticized for his poor work ethic. on top of that fisher said he lied to him about something. he got traded to the chargers for a 6th round pick.

sorry, i don't see him as being any more commited to playing the game or any better of a mentor than collins. again, i'm no fan of collins, but given a choice between the two i'm going with collins.

Fair enough I wasn't aware of that.

When I was talking about Bulger I was talking about him starting, which is what you were complaining about in the prior post. Obviously if you want a mentor, you would go Bulger before Volek.

I assume you mean Brandon Marshall?

I don't doubt that people on this board may have claimed it, but 2 1st round picks for a receiver? That's just crazy talk. There is a difference between the FO saying what compensation they are looking for and a bunch of fans making wild presumptions.

I posted a story about Volek and he doesn't want to move to another team to be a back-up or place holder. He wants to start or he is fine to be a backup in San Diego. Why would he move across country to back-up a second year player who is no better than he is. If he were the vet who was coming in to start for a few years and Clausen was sitting it might be fine. But anything less than that and he is fine in San Diego.

not sure what you mean.. The Denver FO was saying they were only going to accept two 1st round picks. The fanbase said Marshall would never go for less than that due to his skill/talent and because Denver stood extremely firm on that deal..

turns out, the fanbase was wrong.. so now, Denver is saying they want a 2nd for Orton..

here's one scenario.. DWill doesn't want to sign with the Panthers and go play for Fox, perhaps we can negotiate a tag and trade to Denver for Orton; and receive something other than DWill walking. whether you believe that is possible or not is irrelevant as my point above comes into play. We can say "no, no, no, that'll never happen".. but it just as likely could happen.

OR.. we talk to Denver and negotiate a different deal than just a 2nd..

there is just as likely a solution than not..

I am with you now, I was mis-reading what you were writing.

Fair enough about seeing if Denver would buckle. You do raise a good point though, I reckon there are a couple of Fox players that he would like to get hold of. I guess DWill is a great example, as Fox and Denver will want to be going to what they know best, a strong running game and defence.

it's possible. I don't know where DWill stands in all that, but I wouldn't be mad at all if this happens.. we need a decent QB more than 2 stud RB's, and I feel Goodson is solid enough to pick up the slack. We still have Sutton incase of injury or just to get a few reps during the games..

Madhatter clarified trades for me in another thread.. until a CBA is formed trades wont occur, so if it isn't set in place before the draft any trades will be for next years draft picks..
